Accelerator Module

A good mod IMHO, was not so sure of difference after having it on for a while, so took my long weekend as a chance to test it properly.

Removed it for journey outbound, cue 150 miles of annoying surging and constant popping and banging (although I do class the noises as character)

Refitted after arrival at holiday cottage and it was a revelation, much smoother and I am sure a bit more low-mid range power (may just be helping get most from cat-less headers) plus the Women hates all the "silly noises" which she finds embarrasing as she reckons it sounds f**** - Pointing out she can always put the black visor on does not get approval.

Outbound I managed 42mpg, coming home 43mpg and I tried my best to ride the "same way". This was two-up with full luggage so not too dissapointing.

One thing I have noticed is fuel consumption plummets past 80mph and the cases have a large effect as well.

On a ride out on Sunday (module fitted) whilst being held up by my mates ZZR1400 I managed to average around 53 mpg (two-up, no cases and limited top speeds so his Mrs could catch up on the straights) although I cannot ever see me riding slow enough to regularly attain this, it is nice to know if your low on fuel slowing down will help (My ZZR did 40mpg at 100mph fully loaded and two up, yet barely managed 45mpg at 80mph solo - no point slowing down really)

Overall I prefer the feel of the bike with the module, fuel consumption is about the same and I am sure it is also far less likely to drop a valve, not bad for £30 (worth the extra £29.98 over a resistor bodge just so I can fit it in seconds without hacking up the bikes wiring)

Good write-up
I removed my Module prior to taking my GSA in for its 18k service recently.
On the ride to/from the dealer, my bike felt horrible. The engine felt rough as arsholes, and quite gutless.:blast

I refitted the module as soon as i got home. Now all is good with the world again.:comfort

I agree with the comments above, this module is worth the cheap price tag. It's not so subtle you could argue it's all in your head, the difference is noticeable. I'm getting a Power Commander because I like the best possible setup available and it's only now I can afford one!

im so pleased with this thread. took my new (05) GS out for a 300m run at the weeken and whilst i love the bike, its a pain to ride in sub 20mph speeds. its snatchy and you either end up constantly feathering the clutch or your ridign a bronco every time you throttle off. dont mind this in 1st but in 2nd or even 3rd its a bit disconcerting so the module goes in for next weekends run and ill see what diff it makes.

question

for the experts...... i am thinking of fitting one to my 04 1200 GS, but i was also going to fit a KN air filter, would i be right in saying that it would be better for the bike if i used one with an OEM filter instead??

thanks in advance :thumb

I would advise against fitting a Race Filter. Unless go the whole Shabbang and fit PC as well. As your bike may run too lean, even with the Acc Mod.
Anyhow IMHO, the OEM air filter works just fine.

+1
Can't see the point messing with breathing unless you are setting the mixture up as well. You're just as likely to make it run worse otherwise. Unless it can adjust itself?

My setup is

Keiham headers
Ackrapovic can
K+N air filter
Accelerator

I've upgraded my bike one bit at a time. Each upgrade has made a noticeable improvement. Last upgrade was the air filter and this is why I'm getting the PC fitted because of concerns for running lean however the bike rides well.

Good job...get that PC fitted and mapped, soon as.

I hope to be getting it done some time next week but it requires a 2 hour ride to get there! Should be OK! When I get it all mapped up I'll let you know how it goes and what, if any, the difference is!

.....actually it better make a difference for the money it's costing! :blast

Does a 2010 need one?
Yes! I have it on a HP2 -06 and a GS1200 -10. More than giving a little more power at low, mid and high revs, it "catches up" in a blink! Almost "No more" drive off cough when leavin "idle". Most fun for the money, as it uses even less petrol, as you spend less time acclerating!

just returned after my first trip with the module fitted and i have to say im impressed. i wasnt impressed with the little wirey thingy as I was dubious it would do anything but it removes narly all the snatchy issues at low revs. Was a real pleasant ride out. Great little cheap mod. now just need some vestial virgins to rub my pooly buttocks and im sorted :)

Had mine on for a couple of months now and get an extra 30 miles per tank now even when riding hard ,most welcome with fuel rising fast :bounce1

I didn't notice much in the way of fuel economy when mine was fitted. My fuel economy reflects how I ride, weather conditions and whether I town ride or go on long journies. Better mpg on sunny warm days as opposed to cold winter days.

Is this a cheaper alternative to getting the bike re mapped. It is a 2010 model with Remus headers and end can ?

If you have fitted a full decat system, your engine may be running a little too lean (even more so if you have a race air filter also).

Fitting the Acc. Mod. will help richen-up the fuelling. however, for best results, you cant beat fitting a PC & auto tune, or PC & dyno setup, or even an ECU re-flash.

All these other options will set you back around £300-400 however.

I have been running with Remus headers, Akra Can and Acc. Mod, for 15k+ miles so far, and all is good.

But IMHO, if you can afford it, you cant do better than a PC and Dyno tune.
