Not sure what you mean by 'live feed' but on an 1100 the socket has a permanent (fused) connection to the battery (unswitched by the ignition). It'll happily provide power to accessories and receive power (from a charger) with the ignition on or off. Whether it's advisable to power stuff via the socket with the ignition off is another question
I believe there's some sort of issue with 1200's which requires the charger to trick the canbus into keeping the feed to the socket open , but that doesn't matter to us.
I have been using an Optimate 3 to charge my 1150 via the accessory socket for 3 years with no problems. Just need to get one of the plugs to fit the socket and wire the optimate cables to it.

The 12v DIN plug is available on every street corner for a few quid. It's easy to wire to an Optimate connector - but make sure that you get the polarity correct.
