Accident on my bumblebee

This evening white van man reversed into me at speed crushing my bumlebee and in the process snapped the RH fork leg and caliper. Crash bars saved the LHS although rocker cover a little scratched. He did stop and exchange details. Bike has been recovered back to my home.

Living in Suffolk will either attempt the repair myself or let JTC Motorcycle Engineering (Halesworth) take it on. If I was to repair myself (not checked availability fork and caliper parts yet) and suggestions of what else to check?

I’d check the frame headstock if you’ve been hit that hard.

AS I was just about to type up

The two plates (Frame plate on RHS one) on either side of the headstock to frame should be flat and not kinked

Pretty straight on but then front of bike went under his tow bar as I hit the deck falling backwards. Bars look OK and turn OK.

It’s taken a lot of force to do that.
Needs a proper look at for less obvious damage.
I’ve got a set of para forks.

Deffo, if enough force to do that to your forks you sure need to have frame checked.

Wow. That is some serious damage there.

As said above need to check for other less obvious damage that might be present - wheel buckle, wheel spindle bent, headstock twisted, fork yokes, lower in particular etc ec.

You need to have a pretty accurate assessment carried out by somebody who knows their way around an airhead.

Mikey fits that desciption by the truck load.

Was turning left into my driveway a while back and some kid on the 'phone whacked the bike hard on the left rear quarter, (also a bumblebee and also in Suffolk!) I was carted off to hospital (broken leg, fractured rib and crushed hand - trapped under the front wheel of the car), and the bike was carted off to Mikey's!
Mike must have spent a heap of time examining the bike minutely, producing a very comprehensive list of parts damaged and required for replacement. Apart from his expertise with these things, Mike is also in a position to source any difficult-to-find parts. So get the bike up to Mike's ,he'll sort it out for you.

And the 17 year-old kid? Pleaded guilty to driving without due care and fined £80 plus about another £150 costs, no points on his license. Being on the 'phone wasn't pursued as no fatality.

It makes you wonder why using a mobile phone whilst driving was made illegal in first place and about 3-4 years ago the Government at the made a big noise about doubling fines and adding points to the perpetrators licence. There must be a clause not including incidents with older bikes and people. On the other hand it may of had a long term effect on their future, unlike you that "only" had a broken leg, fractured rib and crushed hand which will have no effect on your future or possible employment will it.

My insurance company, who will pursue a claim against the other driver, has advised due to the age (reg 1991) they will write it off. Although I’ve no plans to sell should I do so at a later date the write off will show on a HPI check. They said if I was to claim direct myself off the other parties insurers for repair costs this is also likely to show in any HPI checks as a write off. I assume this is correct. Therefore would this then put off future buyers?
