i stayed in a place called Jumeaux a couple of years ago, it's about half an hour south of Clemont Ferrand.

It's a really nice local hotel, great food and good size clean rooms. The owners we're really nice and spoke english too if needed.
From there, I can recommend taking the N102 towards Puy, then the D906 & N88 roads cross country to Mende. Take the N106 from Mende and pick up the D907 through the Gorges du Tarn. Really pretty. This route comes out right by the Millau bridge.
