Okay, not sure if this is the right place to post this.

I'd like to install some aux lights to my R1250R, will any old aux lights (like the cheapo ones on ebay for £70) fit ?

or

do I need some specific fit for this bike (as it's canbus) ?

Ideally I'd like the lights to come on with the ignition, no switch if that's possible.

You actually have a choice of both to be honest....

If you go down the canbus route then something like Denali works extremely well BUT its becomes VERY expensive but you can set it up (as you will require a EZcan) to do things you cannot do by going down the simpler route (as an example....not turn on till the engine is running, flash when you press the horn, go brighter when you switch to main beam or the side you indicate turns off)....just to be clear you can fit any lights its just the right cables you need

Oh I shall warn you right now DO NOT buy from the Denali UK shop!!! it is NOT Denali ok!!!!

If you go down the simpler route then its getting the right wires to connect into and they will turn on and off when you turn the ignition on/off but its irrelevant what lights you buy.

Personally I went down the Denali route as I had on previous bikes the second option and yes it works but I do like the additional control you have with the likes of canbus connected ones. ( I have the Denali single brake light and the Denali S4 spots as they are quite small compared to the others)

I bought all my gear from a bike thing as they just very very good and will point you in exactly the right direction of what you need (the lights fit all bikes its just the right connectors/cables)

Sorry I will also point out that if you go down the simpler route there are 'boxes' that you connect (in various ways depending on the box) that will act like a bit of relay that won't turn the lights on

I believe a bike thing also sells something like that

I'm looking for something simple whereas I turn the ignition/engine on and the aux lights come on, just think the head light on the 1250R isn't very good at making me obvious to other road users.

Powering them via a hex ezecan or the denali equivalent will allow you to do that. I have a hex with 2 copies of the bmw aux lights that have been swapped across several GSs and are now on my 1250RS. I also have a switch on the handlebar so I can switch them off if I want to. The other consideration is how you're going to mount them. I used these from Nippy's

I really recommend A bike thing as they were extremely helpful

They do not up sell and are very much the experts

Hi Busy builder

If you're looking for a straight forward solution of on and off, most of the cheap lights come with a relay and switch that can be mounted on the handlebar. Connect it to the battery and just turn them on when you go riding.

The ezCANs provide a more feature rich, holistic solution, where you can configure your lights according to your specifications. You can use any 2- or 3-wire light to connect to the ezCAN, note however that the ezCAN usually doesn't work as expected with lights that have built in functionality (i.e. different mode lights).

If you want to go for this route, I'd suggest using our VIN decoder to see which products are compatible:

Kind regards and safe travels
