I realise that I may be opening myself up to abuse and/or ridicule her but ...
Has anyone seriously managed to get this bike to the very edge of the rear tyre ?
I am no wuss when it comes to cornering and having followed a TC ADV and seeing it right to the edge and being equally or more leant over I was surprised that I still have 1cm left
It isn't for the lack of trying but it seems to be beyond my bravery !

No where near it :D a good inch of chicken left on mine but I am off for a ten day alpine trip on Thursday so will hopefully remove a little more weather permitting :D

I wish you the best of British as I failed even on the A816 and believe me I tried as the edge of my boot will attest

I srape me boots regular when lent over which equates to around 1cm too. Although i prefer lefthanders i cant get rid of that 10mm.

You won't ever completely remove them on the WC, it's impossible.:rob

A group of bike journo's and pro racers did a track day, and none of them could get them off. I've scraped my pegs a few times, but still have the strips.:comfort:D

The only way to completely remove them is with sandpaper!:P

i was talking to a bloke last week at the food caravan that is the top of staxton hill, he was on a 14 reg k 1600 gt, as i was chatting with him i casually looked at the back tire ,saw no strips i thought thats a bit strange so i walked round the front and again saw no strips,he'd wore the tires right off the edge, i couldn't believe it but as the conversation went on he said the only thing that pissed him off was the peg blobs , because when he touched them down he shit himself, lol .. respect

I am not that sad so will settle for the 1cm strip and take comfort that the ADV pegs must be harder to touch down as they must be higher to start with

I have about 1 or 2mm tyre unused on my F800GS front and rear and when I had the old model 1200gsa none I ran off the edge on the back on the 1200GSA and it started sliding slightly a few times but nothing sudden so just got used to it I am no cornering god but the GSs I have will lean to the edge of the tyre without to much trouble.

I should imagine the WC should lean over far enough to get to the edge without too many problems on adventure tyres the profile is not that extreme pure road they might start scrapping things first

There's the problem right there. Your imaginings are not reality. Go and look at an Anakee 3 or any of the other tyres fitted to a WC GS from new. The tread now wraps much further round the sidewall than any of the previous generation of tyres for pre WC GSes.

So basically I'm a riding god and it's only due to more tread on the LC tyres that I have chicken strips :D

Reeeeespect :D

So what your saying is they bike grounds out before the tyre gets to the edge?

It's funny that this should be mentioned. I did a track day recently and noticed the same... still about 8mm of chicken strip on the rear! Every session I pushed it a little bit more thinking that must have done it, but no!!! I was running Anakees with about 30psi in the front and 32 in the rear (cold). In fact, the front is worn closer to the edge than the rear. The Anakees gripped incredibly well for the type of tyre they are. A mate was running Michelin Pilot Road 4s on his GS and they were worn to the edge. I checked other GSs running Anakees and they were all pretty much the same, about 8mm of chicken strip left.

I thought that the profile of the Anakees was a bit weird... also concerned about the size of my strips, now not nearly so bovvered. Honest!

About 8mm for me as well....scraped my boots.

Those Anakees are crap - so noisy! You can modulate the noise by rolling the bike L and R.

If the bike is perfectly upright, the noise stops....1 degree L or R: woooooooooooooooo.

Just remember guys if you're a typical tosser and weight @100kg touching a peg is not such a big deal. Ride with the balls of your feet on the pegs and don't stick your feet out and you won't sracp your boots.

Same for me. 2,000 miles in although 1800 of those have been on the motorway, off to the Central Massif this friday for 9 days so hope for some vast improvement.
