Adventure Black Beak does it do anything?

It is supposed to protect the beak but fitting one requires you to drill holes in the beak, so it seems a bit self-defeating.

I suppose that it's a bit more robust than the painted beak and it's cheaper to replace than a scuffed or cracked beak.

Personally, I think that the 1150's look better without it. If I could remove the one from my GSA and not have the marks and holes left by the protector, I'd do so.

Makes the bike look all more butch and manly, in fact like almost all the Adventure parts headlight grill (cattle grid for stopping cows or boulders from smashing your headlight), fog lights (easily the worst performing of all foglights also equipped with cattle grids), and screen (only works with Tobinators), engine bars (dig in and flip the bike on to its tank, ensuring lowsides are highsides) they are pointless features.

Only the tank is worth having :thumb

of course it does something it makes the bike more stable when riding at over 100mph of road try it for yourself find a good forest track or muddy field and do 120 with and without the beak tell us what you find :augie

Bench seat makes the two-part OE seat seem like a luxurious sofa and useless for 2-up travel :nenau (I'll accept the latter doesn't matter for your good-self)

How a coloured anodised spoked wheel is easier to clean than a natural anodised wheel is lost on me but I'll accept it doesn't show the dirt as easy as the natural one.

So that's tank and higher-outputting alternator, surprised you didn't call me on the longer suspension or taller first gear ;)

Well as mine has had Ohlins on from new, I thought it best to ignore suspension and the lower first being an option makes it dependent upon being present but I suppose the option was worth having.

I'm always surprised by the claims made for the two-part seat as there seem to be more 1150's sporting after-market options as well as dead sheep than the Adventure model. Having ridden bikes equipped with both, neither are exactly arm-chair comfy but the bench-seat at least allows the rider to move about on it and gain some temporary relief. :nenau

That's cos its the 1100's & 1150's who actually use theirs and put proper miles on them :augie

Don't get me wrong the 11XX OE seat is awful and I can't manage more than an hour on one before I give out but I lasted longer on one of them than the ADV seat. Never managed any decent miles on a GS without resorting to Messers Corbin, Sargeant, Airhawk, Lamby, Butt Pad and Meyer

it marks one out as a gentleman above the hoi polloi.

of course, fitting one to a budget GS is really quite beyond the pale.

Oh well at least I didn't fit mine to the current one, come to think of it I never fitted the last one either :augie

Fitted to the 1st 1150 owing to damaged caused by a tosser backing in to me and gouging the standard beak.

Fitted to the 2nd 1150 cos the owner decided to 'Adventurise' the bike and for the reasons Mike P gave it won't be coming off.

'cos it looks pretty and is useful for standing my glass of wine on when I'm polishing the wheels (although that's only been the once since I've had it :augie ) but it's very useful for keeping all your nuts and bolts in one place

As for seats, I don't know what you guys are talking about. The standard seat is extremely comfortable and I can do 600 miles on it in one day with no problems.

So, as the seat is obviously designed for lady's bottoms, does that mean that the R1150GS is a girl's bike? :JB :JB :JB :JB
