I have lost 3 1/2 stone now and always thought about getting some leathers but looking like michellin I thought it best to stay clear.
Now that I have lost a lot of weight and all of my kit is far too big I was wondering is now the time to think about leathers?.

I have never owned leathers so don't know how good/bad they are? waterproof etc?. I don't know if riding a GS you would look a right teet. I don't think I would like a one piece suit but would look at 2 piece black.

Anyone love their leathers? or should I just stick to the usual HG textiles?

Any help appreciated, thank you.

If you've got half decent leathers you can get them 'resized' for significantly less than a new set will cost you. All the big manufacturers offer this service. As do many small places...

Rukka do waterproof leathers http://www.rukka.com/lfashion/rukka...5361338CF497402EC22575A500462E7E?OpenDocument

In summer I prefer a texting jacket and leather torusers - I just got my local leathers company to put a zip in for those slightly chilly mornings.

I have two leather suits, one of which is a made to measure BKS suit which I absolutely love. (Had a one piece for track days - good for that but otherwise pretty impracticable). The leather jacket in my suit is great for 9 months of the year, but can be either too hot in the height of summer, or simply not warm enough in the middle of January.

Whilst i don't mind wearing a cordura jacket on those very hot or cold days, I always feel a bit vulnerable in cordura trousers. (its just me - I'm sure they have as much protection for the average jo as leather does, but I just prefer leather trousers :ymca).

Mixing leather bottoms and cordura tops can be a very good combination. One of the benefits of a cordura top, is that you only need to carry water proof trousers - and they can be bundled into something the size of a loaf of bread. The liners inside your top should see you through all seasons. A local tailor will be able to sort you out a zip to marry them both.

Leathers are not waterproof. They'll keep a very light shower out but nothing serious.

Try the combo first and see how you get on ?? :thumb

Get a dog and go to slimming world, I do red days as I love meat and you can eat as much as you want, no carbs though.

I have a pair of BMW Atlantis 4 trousers and these have proven totally waterproof even in several hours of the heaviest rain I have ever encountered. They are also very comfortable to wear even in warm weather.

I've got Tricky 2 from HG jacket and troos. Very good for average weather, even the odd shower will sort itself out.
If very warm, not often but now for example, HG goretex textile jacket and troos.:augie
I've also got a pair of Red Route Jeans with Kevlar, and I added a set of HG soft pliable armour.
Built this up over time, but caters for anything.

Leather vs Cordura

I have ridden many miles with both, but my biggest accident was wearing cordura top and leather trousers. Both performed as advertised, although the jacket was written off, the trousers are still in use. The thing is I travelled a long way down the road off the bike, almost 70 yds, rolling all the way and it felt like being in a spin drier - didn't think I was ever going to stop! I don't think it made my injuries any worse, but I've always remembered the experience. Basically, in leather you slide (watch out for serious friction burns) and in cordura you tumble.

I was told that North Yorks Traffic police bike riders were issued with the goretex cordura when they came out, but since then most have gone back to leather for that very reason. Can't vouch for current situation there, my info is a little dated now:rob.

I do believe well fitted leather is more comfortable and Hein Gericke now do the Cool Black range which is supposed to reflect heat instead of absorbing it, which is the other problem with leather!

When my mrs came off in textile, she landed on her right side, rolled over onto her back, and then slide down the road
