What BMW sizes are you looking at?

Honestly don't know. Not got around to trying them on yet. My H/G jacket is Xlarge.

Ive got a rally pro2 jacket ...................... and I look wonderfull in it.

i use full Rallye 2 Pro kit:
Boots
gloves
jacket
trousers
its great in the heat, but ive yet to test it in the cold. but as the layering system works well (with a removable gortex layer) im sure it wont let me down. as for the cost: you get what you pay for.

I have the rally 2 gear. I waited till they were on special and they were definately worth the wait. IN the heat it is the best ventilated gear I have ever ridden in.
Still to ride in the cold but I imagine they will peform as well.

In the rain (and it buckets down here when it rains) with the gortex liner I did not get a drop on me.

Well worth it IMHO

When i went back to edit i noticed you allready have it, , GOOD CHOICE :clap :clap

The Rally 2 is looking to be the favourite, although I'll wait to see if there are any 'offer' in the next couple of months, or try and get a discount when I pick up my new 1200GSA.

I bought a pair of Rukka pants at the 2004 NEC show which leaked. Sent them back and received a replacement pair a month later. These leaked like a seive in heavy rain in Germany this year and were again sent back to Rukka, who returned them a month later saying they could not find a fault!

My lessons learnt are:-

1) Don't buy Rukka although they do claim a 5 year guarentee. When my pants leak again they are going back for their annual months holiday.

2) Buy from a local supplier who can help in the case of a problem.

Sorry to hear you've had problems with your rukka gear, but part of their warrantee is replacement gear whilst yours is away for repair :nenau

That is true. The original trousers bought at the NEC came from Infinity, so I contacted the nearest store which was in York (c50 miles away). They organised a replacement pair of trousers whilst mine were away. The replacements were a lower standard and did not fit (probably my fault). But Rukka did agree they were faulty and gave me a new pair...which did fit.

The second pair leaked during a very bad thunderstorm in Germany. The leak was so bad that the internal lining was still wet 48 hours later, although my 4 year old H/G jacket remained watertight!). This time I dealt directly with the importers. They were very fair and arranged a pick up from a local (non Rukka) dealer. This time I was not offered a replacement pair (I did not ask), but I could still use my 1998 vintage Dianesse pair that are shabby but still waterproof!

When the pants were returned to me will no leak found I contacted the importers again to express my surprise. I suppose the testers are an independent company, and again the importer was very fair and explained the the usual tester had been away on holiday and there was a strong chance that they had been tested by someone with less experience. With a 5 year warranty I could resubmit them when they leak again.

Sorry to go on, but I've had 2 pairs that both leaked. If I'd bought H/G for a lot less (or even BMW for about the same money), I could have taken them back to the shop for an instant replacement.

No more Rukka for me!

After that sort of palaver I don't blame you. I bought my Rukka kit (& a pair of Daytona Road Star GTX boots & a Schuberth C2) from Infinity in Peterborough late last year.

So far everything but the jacket has gone back for a problem (Rukka trousers = inner lining came apart in the crotch, Daytonas = left boot started to leak, C2 = visor let in water after 30 mins of rain). They've all taken about 4 weeks to get sorted. I did get a loan pair of trousers but even though they were supposed to be the same size as my pair they ended up being far too big to wear, lucky this was during the hot weather.

Much as I like my Rukka kit I'd be tempted to try BMW Streetguard next time or maybe an Aerostitch Roadcrafter.

It is looking as though I may have to splash out shortly on a new textile jacket and trousers. At the moment I am considering a Rally 2 Pro, so please bear with me as I ask some basic questions.

1) Are they FULLY waterproof? Whilst in a torrential storm in Germany this year my Rukka pants leaked like a sieve!

2) Silly question for this site, but how easy are they to keep clean? My fluorescent green H/G jacket needs to be washed every thousand miles or so as every crease is determined to turn black.

3) Are they durable?

4) The label states these suits are good for cold and warm riding. I intend to use them this winter and next summer in Spain.

5) Are they worth the money?

Sorry its a long list, but any views gratefully received.

Cheers

Hi Mike
I have owned the TOUR GAURD suit for 6 years it has never leaked up to now and i have been in some atrocious weather in Scotland (had a full week of rain in June) whilst on holiday. The only down side i find is when it is warm
even with the lineing out it is still to warm. The problem with a gor- tex liner is rain goes through the outer jacket the liner stops you getting wet but the jacket takes a long time to dry,the friend i went to Scotland with his jacket did'nt dry out all week. The TOUR GUARD is made with the gor-tex in the outer jacket so the rain runs off.hope this helps.
Night Trunker.

Many thanks for all your replies.

I will start to look seriously in the next few weeks.

I have a Rallye 2 which was worn on our big trip and saw action in temps from -5 ish up to 40+ degrees. It was great, always waterproof when the gore tex layer was in and in the heat the vents really work. You do need another layer in when it gets cold though.

If you get a red one, it will go pink, mine is almost unrecognisable now, but it looks better covered in dirt and oil as mine is!!!!

Really recommend it, the only downside is that when it does really lag down the jacket can get heavy as it seems to hold the water quite well!

Many thanks....the Rally 2 seems to be the way for me to go.

Another vote for the HG Master as an autumn/winter jacket, especially if you use the bike all week. I've the jacket, trousers and gloves (these are the best gloves I've ever used full stop) and they are all seriously good. A few m8's have various types of BM kit and tbo I can see what's so good about them it apart from the perceived image/style.

... jacket, waterproof outer skin, breathable but with a 'phase-change' type liner aka 'Outlast', so cool in summer, warm in winter, not as bulky as some multi-layered jackets and very good value at about £200. They also do trousers with a bib to match. And the best of it is not everyone's got one :thumb[/QUO
where can i get one Thanks.

Williams in Manchester have been selling off some old stock this week, including Rally 2 Keks for £115 rather than £280.
With the Goretex liner (included) they will be waterproof.

At that price they have to be a bargain.

Hmmm ... thats probably indicative of the margin on the product right there.

Getting rid of them at cost I imagine

Mike,

Looks like you have plenty of replies, herewith my 2c worth ..

1. Yes with the liner fitted. without liner good enough for the occaisional shower. the liner is a tricky to get in and out - not the kind of thing you want to be doing under a bridge in the pouring rain. I usually leave it out and put it in if it looks like heavy rain before I leave home. One good thing is the liner folds and fits neatly in the back pocket of the jacket so you always have it with you.
bear in mind that in heay rain the outer gets soaked and heavy. other alternative is a light rain jacket to pop on over the rally2 when necessary.

2. dunno, never washed mine - spray it with the hose to get the dust off after off-roading and leave in the shade to dry ... still looks good enough for me.

3. yes. good fabrics and neatly put together. nice large zips, fastners all work well.

4. is great in summer - open all the vents and good for up to about 35deg C. gets pretty hot in there when not moving or stuck in traffic though.
2 gripes about its use in cold ... I cant get the cuffs to close tight enough - the cold always slips in and up my forearm, and same for the collar.
liner is also a must for the cold weather - keeps your body heat in.

5. yes. is the closest you can get to just one jacket for all year use.

Other thoughts:
this thing is heavy and bulky - takes some getting used to.
too many BMW badges on the thing for my liking ... you look like a walking billboard with it on.
the water bladder pouch is almost useless - it's damn difficult to get to and quite impractical to use.
protection is great - have taken one tumble in mine and no bruising / breakages at all - fabric has a small abrasion on it.

All in all very happy with mine.

Dale

Thanks everyone....I've decided on the Rally 2 Pro but not whether to try and afford the jacket AND trousers.

I've been offered a 10% discount at 'my shop' but may wait until the new year to see if there are any better offers around.

Mike
