I am starting a new business venture. (I am a pro Gambler and have decided to teach my skills to others)
My venue is a hotel with conference facilities. They have a drop down LCD screen and what looks like a SGVA port in the wall.

I have a clean slate equipment wise. I have a 27" i7 IMac running Parallels, so have Power Point and Keynote. I have limited experience of PP, but none of Keynote. What I would like to do is a slide based presentation with video. The video I want to be able to pause remotely so I an talk about key points. Am I best to embed the video or play each one separately?

The other question is what hardware should I use. (I need to buy) iPad, Surface 2 or windows based laptop. I should say I have a Macbook pro, so I suppose I could use that (but no Parallels - I could put it on though)
How do I control the presentation without keep going over to it and clicking the mouse. I want to be able to control everything by remote. What do I need to buy to do this.

Lots of questions, but any help appreciated.
Cheers
Steve

Remote mice are available with built in laser pointers allowing you to move around the room Have a look at a Logitech or similar
I used to keep my video files separately and just have a title slide for the video clip in the Power Point I found it easier that way to avoid arriving back at the start of the PP by accident :D

Hi Steve, I've worked as a Lecturer for the last nine years and designed a lot of multimedia presentations. I would go with Powerpoint for your software and if the videos aren't too large you can embed them into the presentation. The other option is to save your presentation and the videos in the same folder and hyperlink from the slide to the video, (this means having a symbol that you click on in the slide to launch each video.) It can take a bit of experimentation because excessively large videos can slow the presentation down.

I own a Retina Macbook Pro which is more than powerful enough for what you need but you will need either a HDMI cable, or a thunderbolt cable with an adapter to connect to the SVGA input. Apple supply all of these but you might need to do a bit of research. I always used a Microsoft Presenter 3000 for teaching its a great gadget with a laser pointer / slide advance / screen blackout, and there is switch that allows it to be used as a mouse which is great for pausing your videos.

You have a lot of options with Powerpoint in terms of timing and advancing the slides and there are some great transitions for a professional look. You can also animate a lot of the features in Powerpoint so you can move objects along motion paths etc. Let me know if I can help any further.

Cheers,

John

Presenter

I have done loads of presentations to professional societies/groups and it's a plus 1 from me for the logitech presenter range the one I prefer is Logitech 2.4GHz Cordless Laserpointer Presenter, brilliant bit of kit has a wireless dongle that is clipped inside the controller no real setup to do just plug and play. I used it with Powerpoint.
