Howdy,

I just bought a 660 and got a few questions even after a good search around the forum.

1. I want to mount it above the instruments, for which I read I need an adaptor of some kind.

This one seems the only one on NN for 1200GS (not Adv.).

It does interfere with the cockpit cover I was thinking of installing... any other ones you used and thought good?

RAM mount a better option?

2. Wiring... bit nervous about doing it, but I was scared of doing HiD lights myself too, but that was a doddle... Is the only thing I need this cable, some heat shrink and solder?? Is this the cable that will fit the power under the beak? And where is that cos I don't recall seeing it when I fitted HiD lights?

I keep reading about needing a fuse... does this method need one too, or only if wiring direct to battery?

3. Tourachech v2 mount... lots of you seem to like it... seems to be worth looking after such expensive satnav, des it complicate the install at all?

4. Was also planning to install the TT cockpit cover and possibly a waterproof USB socket that Bowser showed me recently... so I'm wondering if it's worth me doing all these things at the same time...

Anyone fancy coming and giving me hand installing it all (for a fee of course!!) so I don't make a proper pigs ear of it!! I'm in Richmond, SW London. If you can please PM me!

Many thanks in advance!

The canbus lead doesnt need a fuse and its cheaper from BMW.Cant help much with the other stuff as I have the F800gs but if you want someone to stand there and offer pointless advice for a cup of tea then I might be available. :blagblah

Got the Bmw bracket to fit the cross bar, think it was around £12 ish from a dealer.
Fit the gps holder direct onto this, so it`s above the clocks just under my line of sight, only have to glance down , solid mount no vibs.
Used a canbus from nippy norms to wire in , no problem .
Gan canny, Stu

Oh, just read the tour tech v2 bit. It will not fit with the bmw bracket, close to screen . Can with the supplied bracket/mount which is all i use. Take the gps off the mount when off the bike any way, wife is with the bike if i pop in some where. Use Asda for fuel up , cheeper fuel, use card so can sit on bike no need to remove lid and other pain in the ass issues.

ITS ALL IN THE BOX

Everything you need to install your zumo comes with the 660, wire direct to the battery, just feed the cable through the tank panels and a few cable ties later your all done.
As for mounting, heres a pic of mine using the ram mount that comes with the 660.

@Pablo Cheers!

No signs of it coming off when going over bumpy roads?

Did you fit a fuse as well or just right to the battery? No canbus problems?

@anyone else

Is there any advantage / disadvantage to the "direct to battery" approach vs the "canbus lead" approach?

Thank you Stu and Chas for input too ;)

I fitted my zumo using a home made bracket and the canbus connector. When I later fitted a HID headlight I got a constant whine from the Zumo. After trying some "special" cables I solved it by powering the Zumo from a switched fuze box I had fitted for extras.

I have mine powered from a separate switched fuse box I have installed. Direct to the battery is what the supplied loom is designed to be used for but I prefer it switched. I never got on with the canbus lead with the 550 because of the way it behaved when powering up the OEM alarm. If you don't have an alarm its a good option to go for.

On my GSA there's not enough room to mount the 660 with the V2 holder on the upper brace so I am using one of the TT exteder brackets which are about £40. Works OK not too much vibration to worry about.

Doesnt vibrate its solid, the wiring loom you get with the 660 has an in line fuse, you only need to buy a couple of o ring connectors (sold in all car accessory stores) for neatness to add on to the end of the wires before connecting to the battery, piece of piss justin you can do it matey.:clap

DONT NEED A FUSEBOX

Ive got the zumo and fog lamps straight to battery, unless your planning a shedload more electrical accessories you wont need a fusebox.:beerjug:

I use one of the Centech panels on my 800 but I have spotlights,leds,Starcom,Sat nav,bike to bike radio plus an extra socket.If you are going to fit that lot it makes the wiring easier and tidier.

@Beemerman

Did you get a relay switch as well?

Where you mount it, in the tool tray? From the accessories post (as in Wappings post) or to the battery?

Apologies for all the Q's...

The Centech's gonna be cheaper, and pretty similar?

Justin, I use the TT bracket and bar Works great. Slimbo will gladly sell you one. Be forewarned that the BMW accessory bar and the TT bracket are different widths and don't make the mistake I did. The RAM mount works fine but the TT option has a lock so you don't have to worry running in a Petrol station and having your GPS grow legs. Plug it into the accessory socket under the beak and your done. Be forewarned that it is normal (albeit a stupid feature) that your Garmin GPS will stay on even if the bike is turned off if you have a slightly low battery on the Garmin.

TT also makes a mount for your guitar.
