I’m looking for a battery charger for my RnineT. Is it best to get a ‘BMW Charger’ (I’m using the very convenient socket on my bike) or are there cheaper ones that are just as good you can attach the BMW lead to?

Buy one you connect directly to the battery for less money than the BMW branded ones. I been using an Oxford one for years and it does the job.

Optimate 1

No need to spend any more.

Does Lithium and normal.

Great bits of kit.

My R9 had one for years, never a drama.

I’ve got a CTek, an Optimate and a BMW Plus for lithium, all 3 work great

A fly lead connection to the battery is useful as it doubles as a power source for a mini pump for example

On the other hand plugging directly onto the accessory socket is very convenient

It all depends on your priorities at the end of the day :nenau

Optimate do a version that works via the BMW accessory socket.

NN has the Quad reduced https://www.nippynormans.com/optima...-bmw-charger-with-free-hook-and-3-free-cables

or SBS for the Optimate 4 https://www.sportsbikeshop.co.uk/motorcycle_parts/content_prod/2326127

You can get a cheaper charger if you are willing to fit a lead direct to the battery - check the other chargers listed at SBS. As said above, if doing this try to match the connector on the lead to your tyre pump if you have one to give you dual purpose.

If you go optimate SAE you can power your compressor, heated kit , etc from the cable to n the bike, then get home and plug it in to the conditioner.

It’s a great solution for 45 quid

If you have multiple bikes you don’t need to think, lithium, agm etc, just plug it in and walk away.

Use an optimate connected to the battery bypass the canbus.
Even the BMW ones can be problematic as when the battery is full you have to remove the charger.
Told by a bmw technician and a salesman

I can tell that you don’t have to.

I have my 1600 (and previous 1600 / GS bikes) connected to a BMW charger, plugged in through the factory fit power socket. I just leave the bike plugged in 24/7/365, unplugging only to ride the damned thing). They have all been fine.

But hey, maybe that’s just me.

Sportsbikeshop have a sale on some Optimates- when I checked this week the Optimate 1 Duo was £41 delivered. Only downside was a delivery of 5th Feb.

Many thanks for everyone’s kind advice and help. I managed to get an optimate on eBay with a BMW connection lead, and it seems to work a treat!!!
