Hi All

My girlfriend needs a new mobile phone. Now has a Nokia 3310 (!)
They do not tend to get replaced every year..

So, with that in mind- any recommendations for replacement?

Should be:

1. A phone (mp3 do-dads are not understood around here)
2. Mechanically robust-ish (don't expect same life as old one, but still)
3. Battery life ie, time between charges more important than physical size.
4. Nokia probably favoured for reasons of inertia, but does not have to be.

Ideas / suggestions MOST welcome. Birthday next Sat. (easy to remember: D-Day..)

Ta.

What niko says.

I've had one for 3 years now. Best phone I've had. Does everything I want i.e. phone, SMS and occasional photo. It has a mini-usb port which makes backing up the contact list or transferring photos easy.

Of the non-3G smart phones I think it is considered the best available.

They still command decent money used on Ebay. I got mine on a 12 month contract with Vodafone on one of those cashback deals. Now I pay under a tenner a month on a SIM only deal with Virgin.

The only thing that annoys me is that it won't recharge from the USB lead.

My Nokia N95 8GB mobile phone is great. I won’t upgrade now for a couple of years. The best feature for me is the wireless. I use my phone like I do my laptop. The camera is a 5MP Carl Zeiss and produces better pictures than my stand alone camera. The video playback is DVD quality and it comes with a lead to plug into the TV. The phone also has every other feature you would expect. Top Phone.

Another vote ...

... for the 6500; less features than the N95 but much, much thinner :thumb2

+ 2 :thumb Both of us have one.. its the only phone I've ever had that I got to the end of the contract with and I wasn't bored with it;)

Ok then. Thanks for the input!

I'll check-out the 6300. It's more feature-laden than she needs / wants, but
I'm encouraged enough to wander into town to have a look see.

Sony Ericsson J132

Features include a screen and ringtones.

£12 odd :D

Many thanks for info. Follow-up Q.

Well, as above, cheers for good info and advice, re: choice.

6300 has been doing sterling work since just after my last question.

However.

My girlfriends car has a kit fitted (coincidentally) for her old mobile, a 3310/3330.
The car is an ex rep-mobile, so the kit has all the do-dads, like a 'screen antenna, interupts the radio etc.

Anyway, it seems a shame to disturb everything to fit a new kit from scratch.
Is is possible / practical / adviseable to 'splice' the cradle for a 6300 into a car kit for another (Nokia) handset?

DB.

I'd imagine that its do-able as the only thing that should differ is the shape of the cradle...

Could be wrong though :augie

Far too technical.
Try wedging the phone into the top of the steeringwheel and if someone phones you just press the green tit and put it on speaker with the volume already set at its loudest.......steering wheel mounted hands free for free!:D

Cheers for the I/P.

It's a E150 fine around here, using a mobile whilst driving. No points system here as yet. Many carry-on regardless. The fines came in since I was living here and I can't say I've noticed much of a change in habbits.

Police are a rare sight here. And last week, while I was waiting (in my car) for another car to leave a parking place, a woman drove up within 10 feet or so of my car. She was too engrossed in her telecon to look infront.
Anyway, because she'd driven up too close, she had to change hands to steer around my car. She looked really really pissed off about the inconvenience.:blast
