I am on my second gs coming from Ducatis and would not go back.I have convinced my brother to do the same.I thought he would automatically go to a Gs as well.He seems to be looking more at the Rt.I know the run the same engine trans and frame but what i don't know is.Are they hot in summer,do they handle mountain passes as well as the Gs,are there ratios different, does the big screen wind protect better, and any info you can tell me that makes the gs stand out.He has two dirt bikes so dirt bike advantage of the gs doesn't count to him. Thanks for any info.

Have an RT and Gs. The RT handles well, weather protection is good and will surprise many a sports bike, not too hot in warm weather (well the uks warm weather). However the gs is FUN!

Unfortunately nobody can answer what's best for your brother only he can decide, we all tick differently and perhaps a comfortable RT seems to tick his boxes at the moment, especially as you say he has a couple of dirt bikes for his kicks.

Like you I had a couple of GS/GSA's then on to a Multistrada then a K1300gt se which was as smooth as butter after the Multi, however After about 8 months I decided to try the new GS LC and although I thought the K was a brilliant bike I just felt more playful when I got back on the GS, so for me that's what brought me back to the GS.

I'm now on on my 3rd LC, and 2nd GSA and can't fault them.

My only advice would be that after the initial appeal of the RT would he soon want to move back to a GS type bike, obviously changing bike too often can prove expensive, trust me I know :blast

Obviously I'm a GS/GSA fan and that's just my opinion.

Good luck with whatever he buys.

It depends on how hot the weather is in Melbourne in summer. I rode one around the south west USA in 2012 and the wind got so hot once the temperature was in the high thirties upwards it was like standing in front of a very hot hairdryer. It was actually better to raise the screen to reduce the wind blast.

Yes very hot - knowing Australia and the heat - RT will be unbearable. Brilliant screen for our weather but having gone from an RT to a GSA there is definitely more flow of air on the GSA.

RT is a fantastic bike and can handle anything thrown at it but I still prefer the GSA but like a poster above it is really down to your brothers choice - take both for a test ride, that's the fun part.

suggest he rides both bikes and then decides, no question in my mind particularly as you mentioned mountain passes, the GSA is the bike for me.

Well, I've had an RT followed by six GS's ....

The RT was great in Tassie and the NSW high country in winter/spring, the GS's are better everywhere else, anytime,

Phil

I like the RT but love the GSA. The difference in drive train is the different gearing for the RT final drive.

update

Well my brother didn't end up buying the Rt he bought the r1200.But they were doing such good deals i have ended up buying a new Gs as well.
