Hi all.

Got my GS delivered today.

Can't ride today working all day can't ride tomorrow working all day Monday heavy rains :(

Any way. My BMW dealer told me that the BMW crash bars have been discontinued.

As I have already paid to have them installed. I now have been given the option to have

1. H and B or

2. Touratech or

3. Wunderleich.

Now considering that some of these bars may cause some hinderance when servicing ( I don't know do they need to be removed for each service for ease of access.)

Which crash bars would you recommend.

Thank you in advance.

Theres lots to choose from. I didn't bother with crash bars this time, I just fitted the BMW case protectors.

If you wanted the genuine bMW ones, get a refund and buy via eBay as there for sale on there.

+1 for head protectors.

Main advantage is that they don't look crap...

I never even considered them until I went in to my local dealer and they had a bike in with them on. Really pleased with them.

Easy to fit, look great and whilst they won't do much if you put your bike down the road, they would help if you dropped it or knocked the head against a wall etc.

If you're not going off-road (and I'm guessing you won't, as you don't like riding in the rain :D), get the head guards. Any accident on the road over about 10mph will involve the insurance company anyway.

Heed engine bars. Crashed at thirty approx, engine ok rad cover marked. Look good as well.

I have a set of brand spankers new unused OEM BMW engine bars still in the box that they arrived in when I picked up my new T/B GS E4 in September.

I ended up fitting Machine Art head covers instead. the bars are very simple to fit, less than 10 minutes for both sides.

PM me if you are interested

X head protectors and sw motech bars.
Well you need to look after a £15k bike :-)

Of the three you listed, i would recommend the Touretech ones. I had them on my last GS and had no issue with them. A good quality finish and protected all aspects of the cylinders. As mentioned though, maybe overkill. They're quite wide.

Got the Heed top and bottoms. Look good. Not expensive.
They have a rear brace bar to the engine so shouldn't bend too easy.
..touch wood.

+4 for the SW Motech bars

Ask the dealer to colour code them for you, try to get the same colour as the valve covers. :)

You have received many suggestions on various engine protectors. All are nice and certainly every one of them will provide significant protection.

Which one you'll choose is matter of personnal preference. Personally, I use the original BMW part.

The reason for this post, however, is to inform you that the information provided by your dealer is incorrect as BMW has not discontinued the crash bars !

What BMW did was launch a new model of protection bars. Maybe as of now they are still not be available for delivery but if so, and this is questionable.

The new bars are expected to protect a little better than the previous model.

If you decide to buy second hand be careful as there was a small change in 2014 and earlier models will not fit newer bikes.

Best regards,

Andre

Machine Art

I have these fitted , did have engine bars once but found them bulky.
