Advice to a possible new GSer

Chain it to the tree. There's a Kryptonite chain with a large ring at one end so you can loop it around something like a tree or lamp-post, then lock the other end to the bike with a disk lock (Abus Granit works like this). This should stop the scum bags throwing your bike in the back of a van (unless they've had their Transit fitted with a chainsaw!). If you can put a floor or wall anchor somewhere, even better. Maybe try to get an old cover; shiny new cover = shiny new bike underneath?

Ground Anchor

Good advice.

I've managed to get a parking space off road (yes, the one under the tree) where there is already a ground anchor in place.

I just need to find a lock which is v. strong and fits through the c.2" hole in the anchor.

I've currently got an Oxford "Bronze" standard one...which is fine for my hired Bandit but may be a bit under-strength for a bike worth as much as a new GS!!!

Picked up, paid for and making me happy!

No - I didn't find a working girl at the weekend!

I took posession of my very own GS. It's great. I've ridden about 350 miles already - London streets, A roads, Motorway, twisties and even crossed a ford (thanks to Jim McSharry guiding me towards the Yorkshire Dales).

Still looking VERY new, but I'm hooked and getting to know the bike better, ride better and fall in love just that little bit more!

Thanks to you all for your advice.
