Hi,

I've been reading through various threads on this site and I am having a bit of a problem. I currently own a G650X country (my first bike), I am now looking for an upgrade. I have about 6k to spend but i can't decide weather to go down the F800GS route or the 1150GS route. I have seen you can get fairly decent 1150 for that money but I don't know much about them. what are they like in terms of reliabity/maintenance etc? Any help from you guys would be much appreciated.

Cheers

Wot size are you ie short in the leg, 8 stone etc, plus wot you going to do with it,travel Europe carry a pillon:thumb2

Hi Batman,i run an 1150 and iv had no problems with it in a year of ownership, main dealer servicing is expensive, but i now get steptoe to look after it from this site and it gets a much better job done on it.Mines a GSA so a little heavier and taller than the standard GS.Cant comment on your other choice but im sure there will be someone along soon to give advice, for me though the GS is a planted comfortable bike with great road presence,if you read here is also a reliable chunk of bike that holds its value and can do some massive mileages with no probs.........:Motomartin

I'm 6 3 and have monkey arms and legs so I don't think the size will be an issue, plus i'm a bit heavier than 8 stone probably nearer 16!!:tears I will be using it for commuting but would really love to use off road/green laning.:thumb2. Most used 800's are 6500+ just a bit to much for me, but the more I read about the 1150 the more I like them, especially the adventure.

Your choice, but go for the 1150gs or preferably the GSA, I have! If you are mechanically minded you can do most of the service stuff (or all) yourself.:)

Hi Batman,
In 35 years of riding i've owned, faster, better handling and betterlooking(maybe not)bikes than my 1150gsa,but there is something very special about them, they sort of get under your skin.
800 is a cracking bike, but for me does not have the soul of the 1150 or am i just getting a bit romantic in my old age?
6k will buy you a lovely 1150.

Happy hunting Steve

Test ride one at your local dealer, you can then tell them you are thinking about it. That should sort it out for you ;)

If you are serious about off roading and commute through urban areas you may find an 1150 GSA quite a handfull. I off road mine but it is hard work and not for people who don't want to drop the thing :blast

Decision made. I've bought myself an 1150GS, pick it up in the morning.:JB:thumb:thumb:thumb:thumb:thumb
