Africa Twin is coming

I don't do finance/loans/pcp etc. I've money set aside to buy my next bike, but I just won't blow it all just to have the next great thing.

As for the F800GS, I've never ridden one, only the 800ST. I thought it was a nice enough engine, but in all honesty I don't really want another new euro brand bike.

At 0% you are daft not to, do a PCP on their money & keep your saved up money in a deposit account like Santander's 123 account @ 3% pa & pay the monthly dd from there & if necessary pay the final balloon from there too or trade the bike

Saves your cash

You'd be stupid not to

That's me....stupid cash buyer. :aidan

But that is a nice idea..... Amazingly, all the financial 'experts' I know have never suggested the likes of that. Thanks. :beerjug:

With all this recent talk/shock of what we in the UK could possibly be asked to pay for the new AT, I wonder will Honda UK shoot themselves in both feet with pricing the product too high ? That's been Yamaha territory with new bikes being launched at stupidly high prices in the past (Fazer1000/V Max/MT01 etc) and who seem to have got a dose of reality with much more realistic prices on their latest range. Look at how the Tracer/MT range is flying out of the showrooms. I think that more people like me will cancel their orders if it appears to be poor value for money. Let's face it, there's nothing in the package actually cutting edge with a steel frame, tubed tyres and only the newly designed engine an actual minor talking point. The DCT isn't new either, just Mk3 DCT. Time will tell with this protracted birth.

I have been saying that, this new AT is nothing more than you can actually buy tomorrow & ride away on Tuesday

It's hardly radical - get a F800 GS on 0% now & wait for @ prices to drop after launch fever, Davy

I'll not be buying anything else now at this time of year, especially an 800GS. As I've said, no more euro brands for me. If I don't go ahead with this purchase, I honestly don't know what new bike I'd buy, so maybe I'll just go old school an get something Japanese. I have been looking around for a TDM850, but most have been well used and there doesn't seem to be any that have been hidden away with low mileage on them.

Still, a mate has gone off to Thailand for six months and left me this to play on. :D I don't mind slumming it for a few months. :green gri

So what do you think is so much better about Jap bikes over Euro bikes ?

Many Jap bikes are usually heavy, bland & dull - although there are some notable exceptions granted

Do you fear unreliabilty ?

Yep.....and the running back and forth to the dealers for recalls, updates etc.
Buying Japanese usually means replacing a bulb or a battery and in the long run, they are more reliable.

I was seriously considering the new AT but my local dealer is shite and I'm not paying £11k without VAT for one.
I'm actually swaying towards a 2016 Versys 1000,especially as it will come in the fastest colour :

I can get one for under £9k and just need to add heated grips and hand guards and it's sorted as don't want panniers as I'll just get a Givi plate to use my Trekker and then strap on my Ortlieb roll bag to the pillion seat.

My Hondas just had a recall for a part that could cause it to burst into flames apparently. I'm bored with it now so the temptation is to torch it and blame the known fault :D

Well I'm only going by personal experience. I loved both my 12GS and 1190 for how they rode, both excellent bikes with the KTM being bonkers and I was willing to forgive both of them by a large degree just for that simple fact. But if I counted up how many times both were back to the dealers for fixes/problems/updates etc, they'd be ahead of all my Japanese bikes I've ever owned put together. I accept things can go wrong, but peace of mind is important to me and I get that by a massive margin with Jap bikes.

When good value starts appearing in your buying criteria it's time to Jab your self on the balls

You're right !! I need to fork out £16k for the latest BMW :tesco chariot......oh hang on.....no,I'd rather have an under-rated more simple bike that isn't packed with stupid rider aids and flakey paint.

Quite independently, I too was thinking of the AT, getting excited by all the Glam and promo.
And then I had a conversation at the above Stealers, who offered me 5.5k on my 2012 Blade now, with deliver "about Christmas".
With that sort of pricing I can afford to go on some pretty good holidays, keep the Blade, and then pick up a heavily discounted AT in December 16.

Arsey

Go and Ride one Fella you will be pleasantly surprised, I bought one 4 months ago in white to use as my everyday bike which is what I what I was going go put in against the AT but after the last weeks riding it and putting a deposit down, I'm really failing to see how and in what way the AT can be better other than off road a little more torque and 19kg lighter granted but this thing is so capable and comfortable I doubt the Honda could compete, If I was Off roading every weekend then yes but im not and wouldn't really use a circa £11K bike to do it on anyway, I think ill loose the £200 Deposit and keep the Kwacker !!

Albeit Dobles did offer me £8500 for it and its only the Base model with all the touring bits on it apart from the panniers !! maybe they will give really good PX prices to inadvertently lower the buying price ??
