Africa Twin is coming

Errrr, someone's maths is a tad off.

£10,046 + VAT@ 20% = £12,055.........

Spoke to my dealer today and told him I'd not be paying that sort of money when a 12Toilet can be had for £11,900.
He said that he doesn't know the price yet and can't offer an explanation on how a dealer in Guernsey would know either.
So in reality we're back to waiting on Honda UK to reveal all sometime in the near future.

A little piece of your dealer must die whenever you walk through their door. :D

I always walk in with a big grin on my face.....like a smiling assassin. :green gri

not to mention a big pocket of cash !!

That normally makes the dealer go from "O no not him again" to "Hi mate tea or Coffee what can we do for you today"

That's how it works for me anyway !!

Arsey

Go and Ride one Fella you will be pleasantly surprised, I bought one 4 months ago in white to use as my everyday bike which is what I what I was going go put in against the AT but after the last weeks riding it and putting a deposit down, I'm really failing to see how and in what way the AT can be better other than off road a little more torque and 19kg lighter granted but this thing is so capable and comfortable I doubt the Honda could compete, If I was Off roading every weekend then yes but im not and wouldn't really use a circa £11K bike to do it on anyway, I think ill loose the £200 Deposit and keep the Kwacker !!

Albeit Dobles did offer me £8500 for it and its only the Base model with all the touring bits on it apart from the panniers !! maybe they will give really good PX prices to inadvertently lower the buying price ??

Probably wont ride one as local dealer doesnt have demo.Have you stuck a pipe on yours or left it standard ?

Just did a little search on the interweb and the KTM 1050 Adventure is looking a lot more attractive
its .1 Lbs of torque less
1.2 bhp less
the KTM is 212kg wet against 228 on the Honda

and it comes with hard luggage for £10K as per the linky

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/KTM-1050-...LUGGAGE-FOC-/151683061861?hash=item235103d865

I really think Honda have got to pull something out the Hat to be able to compete with the KTM or BMW 800 GS !!

Yes mate have a Yoshimura can on mine heres a pic (hopefully !!) as you know ive had all the adventure style bikes apart from the LG GS and im not going to open a whole can of slagging off by saying its the best but the Versys is without doubt the one with the least bad bits, its quick it handles a treat you can load it up with panniers top box and all your crap and it will still take you and the Mrs anywhere and to be honest I think it looks good as well

The only thing I wasn't used to was the higher revs like on a sports bike so I fitted a 1 tooth bigger front sprocket that took the cruising revs down a bit now its superb it will sit at 100Mph for longer than I can overtaking from 70 -80 it pulls like a train wheelies in first and 2nd on acceleration (TC OFF ) it is just a really good bike

have a look at this
http://www.versys1000.com/index.php?action=forum

go to general chat there is no talk of dodgy gearboxes no not going into neutral, generally no complaints at all about the bike so that's not a bad thing shows that it is reliable and fairly well nailed together panniers are excellent easy to go on and off bla bla bla its just a good bike.

Sorry for the off thread boys !!!

It does look good.I really like the green for 2016 and don't need panniers or anything as have a Trekker box on my KTM so just need a Givi plate.
Don't like big panniers anyway as they kind of defeat the object when trying to make progress on 2 wheels and filtering etc.

I just need to sort my divorce out but may well just bite the bullet and get one for next years big trip to the Picos.
It appears from Kawasaki UK website that for 2016 they are only doing the one model and then you spec it up yourself so I would just get the base bike plus heated grips and handguards, though someone said the OE grips are shite and to get Oxford jobbies instead. The Yoshi looks good.Did it need the fuelling fiddled with ?

No fuelling mods at all and its as smooth as silk, the only thing I would add would be the gear position indicator as with the std sprocket you'll always be looking for a 7th gear !! Kawasaki hand guards are really good quality, ive used Oxford heated grips which are better than the Kwacker ones, your right re the spec you buy a std bike then add whatever you want for 2016

I too am not interested in the KTM or another BMW and was just pointing out the price of the KTM with panniers looking like better value than the Honda I was thinking about cancelling my order but will wait and see what comes up with prices etc, the only real choice now for me is to either cancel or take a proper beating on a 2015 15 plate fully loaded Multistrada that's done 700 miles as I wont be trading the Versys in for the Honda as the was to trade the versys and have the MS and the AT !!

Anyone consider the newer Suzuki DL1000 VStrom? They seem like a nice bike and rate out well in adventure bike comparisons against GS, Tenere', Versys 1000 etc. There may be deals to be had on them. For whatever reason they're not selling well over here so Suzuki must have put sizable incentives on them because I see new ones priced at $9,000 (they list for $12,700). Heck of a motorcycle for that money.

True - but is this the latest and sparkliest dirty videoed thing in the world?
Only the AT can be this new thing, until the next newest thing comes along.
Sitting tight now and seeing if it might perform in the real world, and also waiting for a deal in nine months when Honda UK have a shedful unsold....

LOL no no that would certainly be the Africa Twin.:D I was just tossing the Suzuki out to those who have ruled out the AT because of price, tube tires, etc.

I have to give my dealer mucho respect. They know I've taken a chance on this thing and technically been without a bike this summer. They've lent me a demo bike of my choice any time I feel the need during the week or over weekends......can't get much better than that. The salesman was working at the KTM dealership when I bought my 1190 and knows me well.

Honestly, I do not know what I would go and buy if this all falls flat. I'm in the nice position that I could buy any virtually any bike on the market, but I don't like IL4's anymore, prefer twins of any configuration and don't mind triples. The sensible thing to do would be to head to the Yamaha dealer and buy a Tracer for much less than the AT might cost. Otherwise.....:blast

I've come to a decision, as I've already parted with my deposit ill wait till the press release and see what they all think of the bike as its not a BMW you can expect a unbiased report based on the facts, if they all say its the dogs danglies ill stay with it and call it then

If they all say its not really as it was hyped to be ill cancel the order, swallow the deposit and keep the bikes I've got and change the little picture at the bottom of my posts back to the Multistrada lol

Forget the actual pound note number for a moment and consider this. Would you expect to pay more for the new AT than the 800 Crossrunner or less ?

The updated Crossrunner seems to be (slowly) selling at £10495 new with an Akro can , center stand and heated grips + Tom Tom.

I am not trying to compare the two bikes direct as they offer different riding experiences. I just wonder where you think they should sit in terms of cost relative to each other rather than comparing bikes from other brands?

I'll get to your Crossrunner question after this.....

IMO, the new AT sits between the likes of the F800GS/Triumph 800 and the uber trailies of the 1200 genre, and beside the KTM 1050. Therefore I think that it should be priced similar to said KTM as it appears to be a direct competitor. But then the AT is more off road focused (and will use this 50/50 as a USP), so it's not quite so direct after all except in the power outputs/A2 license friendly.

Now my thinking on your Crossrunner query is this.

The Crossrunner is a variation of an existing model sharing many parts with the VFR. So production costs have been paid for many times over giving how long Honda have had the basic architecture in place. But the Crossrunner that is available in the UK is different to the ones available elsewhere. In the rest of Europe, it does not come with the GPS/centre stand/top box/Akro pipe that Honda UK supply (and costs approx £9,170 in Germany). And the reason Honda UK bring in this specced up model is because of the slow sales of the original model, they basically sexed it up to make it more desirable. But then it is more expensive in the UK and not like Honda UK are actually doing customers a favour in real terms and giving the extras away for nothing. So in reality, the price of the Crossrunner in the UK is out of kilter and therefore that brings us back to how the AT will be priced in the UK market. Logically, it should sit between the Crossrunner and Crosstourer price wise. But that logic could be seen as flawed considering what I've pointed out with the UK Crossrunner.

But this is just my thinking and is why I'll never be employed to make decisions on how much products are sold for. :beerjug:

So what happens when BMW bring in the revised F800 GS in 2016 ?

BMW aren't going to lose market share to Honda & therefore are bringing in a 'sexed up' revision with more bhp & power, plus styling revisions & maybe components upgrade to meet the AT head on

Could spoil Honda's party & trounce sales

I'm waiting to see what BMW & more importantly KTM do in 2016

I reckon we'll see a revised 1050 with adjustable WP suspension & a 21/17 or 18 spoked wheel set

They're not going to let Honda have a free run in that sector
