.............I didn't know the corrosion on the AT spokes was so bad you needed to buy a new set of wheels :D

Would love a set of those on my Scrambler (more subtle colours of course) :thumb

They look the TITs Davy as does the tank pad do they do a tank pad for the Red one do you know ?
Not seen a set of AT rims that corroded Nutty they are really bad !! Mine are not anything like that (Thank God)

To be fair, it's looks like it's only the spokes have tarnished, the rims look in OK order. However, what do you expect from a demo bike used from February with little or no cleaning maintenance.

In fairness, I don't think any dealers look after their demo bikes properly, so those are probably at the end of the extreme. I doubt many owners will have wheels that bad, as most people tend to look after their bikes better than any dealer would.

Not really.
All the talk bout it being tested for years etc before the launch.
That's a load of nonsense.
How in that time did nobody suss the heated grips are crap.
Plus switches. Spokes.
And the odd starting issue
Not sure they bother to test in winter...hard to show the road handling...

Agreed....my own Honda dealers demo wheel spokes were tatty in short order. I presume that all the dealer demos were on the road in February when the bikes arrived to these shores. Plus I saw one local owners bike pictured in the snow here and he was raving about how good it was. A few months later, the same guy was moaning about the spokes tarnishing. Mind, I was chatting to a mate who owns a Super Ten 12 and his spokes were rather nasty......typical of most Jap bikes I'd say.

Do BMW and KTM use stainless spokes in their wheels ? My 1190 wheels spokes were spotless after 9k miles.

Not sure about KTM, but I'd wager that BMW do, as I've not had this issue with the spoked wheels on any of my GS's.

My spokes go black like that in say a 300 mile dry ride.
It's like the brake dust is eating into the spokes.
It will clean.
But with a lot of effort.
Shouldn't happen
Plus bike never seen salt and was still doing it slightly from couple hundred miles old

Spec of the Alpinas.....

CNC triple bearing rear hub with over sized bearings, double diameter zinc-nickel coated spokes = no rust , 7050 aluminium rim ring, tubeless with safety bead so tyre doesnt leave rim in case of puncture.

The spokes aren't stainless as the wheel experts would tell you that stainless spokes are more brittle and prone to breaking. Maybe Honda are happy to substitute finish for durability !!! Still, owners with crappy spokes will be getting them replaced at some point now the factory is back up and running....allegedly. :rob

Believe spokes on my KTM are stainless and holding up very well so far:)

Looks like Honda are using the same ones as Triumph on the 800 Tiger - had a set that went like that after only 2 months:mad:

Why didn't Honda fit proper tubeless wheels to start with? Was it just cost saving?

Will be down to cost - same as it's direct competition such as the Tiger 800 XC and the F800GS. KTM's 1190R has a 21" tubeless front so it can be done ;)

The spokes on my Crosstourer look like brand new. The bike is only 2.5 years old and 13000 miles but I have barely cleaned the spokes with anything more than a hosepipe and some SDoc gel. Pretty sure they must be stainless.
