Just read the full Bike magazine test report. HA HA HA HA HA HA:)

Summary: GS is better all round bike, AT lacks grunt and nigh on useless two-up - when carefully reading between the lines there is really no serious reason for buying an AT over a GS. The very last statement on the last page is clearly there to appease Honda's advertising people (see full page advert inside rear cover).

Yes, the Honda is a nice refined bike in the same way that a Honda Jazz is a nice refined car.

If you're the type of sad fucker that has to buy a bike that is only approved by your nagging wife and then never allowed out without her then I suggest a Honda Jazz is more you anyway. For those of us that might take a pillion twice a year, being good two up isn't high on the list of priorities. And neither is having 180 hp that is unusable.BMW must love gullible punters like you.

I am not married :) my ex wife owned a Honda Jazz and before that had a Honda Civic so I know what nice sensible cars they are - but as dull as ditchwater.

My girlfriend has never nagged - she has been around bikes all her life and loves touring as a pillion, and because she is a delight to be with on the bike then the bike has to be properly capable of doing this as well as being brilliant when riding solo. It looks like the AT falls far short of being the best all round adventure bike by a very long way indeed in many aspects.

As Bike magazine said the Honda is a very nice refined motorcycle, that is very nice to ride - but in reality it is not in the slightest bit edgy and is a bit flat - (just like a Honda Jazz) if that appeals to you then you will be happy.

BMWs used to be the 'old mans' motorcycle - looks like Honda have now taken over that mantle and GS LC is now the edgier, sexier brand :)

All the best
Will

It's a gift :)

Arsey by name and definitely by nature it would seem. I hope you have a better disposition when driving your bus load of passengers.

It's easy to pick and choose your words of choice to berate something that threatens your cosy little world. I couldn't care less what the next person rides....their money, their choice.

The first paragraph in BIKE article says a lot......

Hondas new AT is not as good as the 12GS. Simple. Or rather, it's that simple if you're looking for a bike to feel, perform and respond like a GS. Remove your GS blinkers and the Honda rapidly proves to be good. Actually, make that great.

I know quite a few have asked Enginerd about having not ridden the AT. Personally, it'd be wasting his time as his mind isn't really open to anything different if it doesn't have that blue/white roundal.

Not true - but one decides what to investigate based upon research, no matter what one is buying because it is impossible to test everything - on the basis of the bike magazine reports the AT is way down my list of suitable bikes, it sits alongside the Versys, Vstrom, Honda Crossthingy, Tenere, Capanord etc - The Triumph, Multistrada and even a KTM sit higher up the list of suitable bikes.

Don't forget the MT09

Not true - but one decides to talk utter bollox without any research, no matter what one is buying because it is impossible to test everything ,especially if one spends all his time on here rather than getting out and actually gaining some experience of what one professes to have knowledge of- on the basis of the bike magazine reports the AT is way down my list of suitable bikes,it's not a mediocre all rounder like the GS and cannot cope with my girlfriend's fat arse,as I don't have a mind of my own and always have to be chaperoned

Finally we agree !!

Yeah sorry missed that one out too :)

Honda have always been well known as the masters of 'nice but bland' and they seem to be continuing with that well earned reputation - good on them because lots of people like that and it has served them well. They are also very concerned about safety, rightly so, but that leads to dumbing down and things like clutch-less automatic gearboxes to make the riding experience 'nicer' but less 'engaging'

the honda gearboxes actually have two clutches. hence the "dual clutch" tag ;)

BMW experimented with "semi- clutchless" with the WC. that didn't go so well.

OK you got me, no manual clutch lever is what I meant, not actually clutch-less :)
