Agee old question - 1100 or 1150gs

1100:thumb2

Just like the original Pan european, they got it bang on right first go. I think anything after the 1100 was just chasing sales.

Well Mark, I know what you mean about the pull of the GS. Ive had an 1150 and ridden 1200s enough to know I dont want one. Im on a 660 Tenere now from new and every time I get on it I think what a fantastic bike! Fast as it needs to be, great off road, if it falls over you can pick it up without the help of Sparrow's. 300 miles to the tank if your'e carefull. Nimble in traffic. Nice to look at. Totally reliable. If Ive missed anything please tell me!

Get another GS if you need to scratch that ich but keep the Ten for those serious days!!

Never owned an 1100, put 68,000 miles on my 1150. Sometimes wish i didn't have 4 bikes, so that I could rack up the miles on the GS.:blagblah I really want to see the odometer go past 100,000.

put 30,000 miles on my 900 divvy.

I bought my 1100 after searching for a 1150. After a test ride i just had to have it. I can not say it was better than a 1150, as i have not enough riding (1150) hours for a comparison. But it was low milage felt and rode well, not to mention cheaper than the higher mileage 1150`s i had been looking at :thumb
1100`s also have that Suzuki Katana look about them at the front

I too am a Yam 660 fan having had one to borrow several times, performance is like the BMW even when fully loaded, it is lighter and more economical. But where they loose out is Road Presence :bow The BMW has it .............................

road prescence ? - i've got a harley road king for that :D

The eBay 1100 looks good. Haven't sold mine yet though. Might contact them anyway and they might want to trade. I'm surprised there's been no 1150gs lovers on this post. Guess the 1100GS must be the better bike. Glad that one's cleared up!

:ymca2 Do Harleys have road presence ? A GS does as does a Hummer
I used to have a Harley i sold it imediately when i found out my old Ural was better engineered internally................. :roll

Sorry for the :hijacked Buy the best GS you can, you won`t be dissapointed :JB

I owned both at the same time, after much deliberation sold the 1100....keeping my far superior 1150:toungincheek

Same here :thumb2

There's nothing at all wrong with the 1100 apart from the inherently weak design of the footrest hanger/gearbox mounting (easily sortable with a hardpart) but the front end with that rectangular light just looks very dated to me, whereas even though it's a generation and a half older than the latest 1200, the lights on the 1150 still look totally up to date :nenau

Given a choice between the 1100, 1150 and 1200, I'd go for an 1150, then an 1100 which I'd do a beak/light transplant on, then a honda c90.....and lastly a 1200 :augie

My 1100 had all the hardparts, the headlight was HID and wasn't bothered about styling even had the option to put a 1150 front beak etc. on it.

In the end it comes down to how the bike rides for me and often riding them back to back on the same day left me with no illusions as to which is the better bike:)

Funny how it took an angst ridden thread sobbing about how hard you were finding it to decide between the two as they were so closely matched then :augie

Now you've sold the 1100, the 1150 is of course 'far superior' :blast

You aren't fooling anyone Timothy :P

:kissy2
