floating islands are amazing. that's also a great application for their solar panels!At 9am we boarded a small craft from the jetty at our hotel to go out to the floating islands of Lake Titicaca which are populated by the Uros people.

The islands are floored with totora reeds which are bouyant. It is soft and yielding to walk on, kind of walking across a freshly filled silage pit which the farming lads here will understand.
The ladies of the islands make their own crafts which is I'm told a significant part of their income.
