At our farewell dinner at a very good Argentinian steakhouse in Arequipa on Sunday night our guide Geert was telling us that there had been another landslide on the Pan American Highway that afternoon.
The decision to do that section on Saturday had been vindicated.

I spend a lot of time on Flightradar.
Some fascinating stuff flying about.

In that last picture there’s a USAF plane heading towards the coast. It took off from RAF Fairford.
It’s a Rockwell B1-B Lancer swing wing bomber. There’s only 45 of them. Quite a weapon. Blooming fast.

It’s now disappeared off the radar.

Just about two hours until the fourth and final leg unless of course one counts the bus home from the airport as another.

We were collected from the hotel at 8.30am and taken to the airport for our flight over the Nazca Lines.
Unfortunately, visibility was poor so flights were postponed with the result that we didn't get away until after 11am.

I'll not bore you with any more but suffice to say that it was a very special flight.

After lunch we set off south on the Pan American Highway. It is a very busy road with trucks carrying ore to be shipped to China.
Again, as over the past two weeks it is the sheer size of the landscapes that hits you.

Indeed, it was all rather glorious, especially if you have an interest in the Americas and the archaeology that is being found recently is mind boggling.
