I'm looking to get an air pump that can be used via the o/e 12v socket, what do you blokes recommend?

To the best of my knowledge you can't buy a pump that fits the socket that is capable of inflating tyres due to the CANBUS system.

It might be the only option but it defeats the point of having a nice convenient socket.

I use the optimate charge lead fitted to the battery and connect to that, you can get the connectors from maplin, i recall others on here have done similar, the onboard sockets are for sat nav and stuff, the separate socket is good for heated clothing etc ,

Yes that would do nicely as well.

For some reason BMW only allows 5A from their acc sockets when pretty much the rest of the world is 10A.

My "Stop & Go" mini compressor works straight off the aux socket with no problem for the Canbus.

I hope you are right but is that with a load? I've found that my compressor also would run with ease from the aux socket until the tyre pressure reached about 20psi then the canbus cuts the power. I now have a connector fitted that plugs into an optimate lead straight from the battery. I was lucky to make this discovery in my garage and not at the side of the road.

Just a side note on the Airman pump, I used it in France last year, temps about 30c , pump cuts out on overtemp before getting up to pressure. Safety built in I suppose but a nuisance just the same.

Yep. It has taken tyres to full pressure on a few of occasions.

Fit an aux socket direct to the battery via a suitable fuse.
Makes life a whole lot easier for running high loads or charging using a standard charger.

thanks for that, looks like a socket to the battery and any old charger then, never fooking simples is it
