air pump

Depends what socket your using but 10A would be a good choice for a cig lighter or Hella type socket. With suitable wiring of course.

Little thread bump here. I fitted an SW Motech electrified tank bag, with its power lead tapped direct from the battery with an inline fuse, (now I dont know the fuse rating, thats the only question mark), to an SAE connector that lets you plug in whatever you like (usb, cigarette etc). So canbus side-stepped.

Put my SNAN inflator https://www.amazon.com/SNAN-Digital-Inflator-Portable-Compressor/dp/B01HGNGV0Q and it doesn't work :( It powered up for about 4 seconds and started pumping, then died.

I tried it on the car immediately after that and it works fine and full. Put on bike, nothing. Back on car - perfect working order again. SO there is obviously something wrong from the bike perspective.

The SW Motech power lead works fine and charges my phone so its no problem with that. The SNAN pump also doesn't work from the din adapter in the cockpit - didn't even light up for a second.

Any ideas what it could be? I don't want to have to buy another one and have the same issue. The inline SW Motech fuse perhaps?

If the Motech lead is charging your phone (via the SAE Connector + USB 12v to 5v Adapter?), then the Motech lead inline fuse must be OK.

I would suspect the SAE Adapter connection on your Motech lead to your pump connector is not making proper contact with your pump connector.

Or somewhere in the Motech harness there is an overload trip of some sort. The 4 seconds of power before cutting off is the clue on this I feel. The inflater will draw a fair ampage 5A + especially under load which may be to much for the Motech harness kit.

Below a link to DYNAPLUG'S micro inflator. It draws 4,5 amps

Its a great product: light and small; very well made.

They also manufacture a grat tyre repair kit.

I represent the company in Brazil and have an excellent experience with both the company and its products. VERY highly recomended !

I use the optimate charge lead fitted to the battery and connect to that, you can get the connectors from maplin, i recall others on here have done similar, the onboard sockets are for sat nav and stuff, the separate socket is good for heated clothing etc ,
Roamer

I've done that too so avoiding the canbus for both charging the battery with my Optimate and having a power source for my airman from NN to run off

Yep - it must be that as it's not charging the phone now either, so must have blown the fuse. I'll investigate there :blast

Yes it will. It even comes with a cble to connect to BMW's accessory socket .

The plug has a red part attached to it that you will need to remove ( twist and pull ) and its ready to connect.

These pumps have a very poor output and I found a short high quality double action bicycle pump does a better job, there are lighter, take up less space and dont need eletrickery.

As a matter of interest, how much double action wrist action does it take to inflate a flat rear tyre to 42 PSI?

For puncture repair, stuff that, way too much work at the side of the road. I don't even use them on my mountain bikes! If you want light weight and small CO2 cylinders is the way to go for both by bicycle and motorbike.

Agreed. - I carry 8

From nearly empty, it takes about 4 CO2 cartridges to fill up GSLC rear tyre to 42 psi. If you have another puncture, or if you didn't properly fix the first one, you still get one more chance of repair if you carry 8 cartridges...

I would hate the feeling that if another puncture happens or if I didn`t properly fixed it the first time I would be without alternative... Furthermore, it takes about as much space as the DYNAPLUG compressor and certainly weights considerably more. True, you may save a little bit of money untill your next repair...

On a long trip I find a compressor or at least a manual pump absolutelly necessary !

I agree. I carry a Topeak Mini Morph pump. It's small enough to fit into my Touratech toolbox (which I modified to make it fit my 1150). I fitted a set of TKC70s to my bike a few weeks back and as an experiment I tried to see if I could seat the bead with the hand pump. It worked no problem. I fitted both tyres, one after another and seated the bead and inflated to the correct pressure with the hand pump. My arms were exhausted afterwards, but I wanted to know if it would work if I had to do it on the side of the road. If I was just plugging a puncture, it would be much easier because I had to pump fast to get the bead to seat while there was air leaking around the bead.

Andre,

Can you tell me the difference between the Micro Pro Inflator and the Mini Pro Inflator http://www.dynaplug.com/inflator.html?
Im looking for one that will work direct from the R1200GS LC Power outlet (CAN version limited to 5A)

Thanks

Ian

A direct connection to the battery and you can use any pump.... I use an old one from the wife's old Ford car. Small, compact and works perfectly.
