Just bought 2x Airhawks for my GS1200 - front and rear. The few times I've ridden with I can say it's better than std seat for comfort but I still get a numb bum. Adjusted the air along the way to a lowish level - either way my bum still gets numb. My padded trousers don't help as I can get hot inside them which I think only causes more discomfort. My daughter tried the rear Airhawk and after about 30 miles she said her bum was numb. On the way back she tried without the airhawk then she it was better - How come??

I tend to get numb bum on most of the bikes I ride after some distance. Advise needed please for a Airhawk newbie! Should I have bought a Sargent seat instead?

I use a medium cruiser airhawk with a low seat on my r1200gs. Done over 40k with it and never had numb bum and suffered pretty badly before. I recommend taking off your seat and adjusting the airhawk whilst in the comfort of an armchair (seriously!) - position the hawk on your seat exactly as it would be on the bike and let the air out bit by bit until you you are just hovering a few mm above the seat, test it out by sitting on it indoors for an evening or two to get it just so. After I got it right it still took me a few weeks to get 100% comfortable with the thing - but the bottom line is that it needs some perseverance but it should pay dividends in the end. Best thing I ever got for the bike...

I use an air hawk and have found it good for long trips I tend to have very little air in it you need to play with the air a bit to see what suites . I have the rear one as well but my wife cannot get on with it so she has gone back to the sheep skin. So stick with it the thing with the air hawk has over the seat modfications is you can put it on any other bike if you change.

Sounds odd to me, particularly if it's the two of you with the same problem, I've never had a anaesthesatized arse with my airhawk. You're not wearing them as hats are you?

I don't see how you can still get bad bottoms, the air pockets should be isolating you from any vibrations, so that shouldn't be an issue. They'll also be lifting you from the seat and providing a cushion which should make you float above any problem area.

But, you say it's both you and your daughter. It's a genetic thing then, you are freaks. Please avoid circuses run by victorians and children likely to taunt you because of your physical deformaties.

Sharp tonight aren`t we :D

Anyway, sounds to me more adjustment needs done. How hard do you have them inflated? If you picked mine up you`d swear there was no air in it but sitting on it I sink in so it`s supporting me just nice :drool
I did suffer from a numb bum now and again but a slight adjustment to my seating position sorted that out and over the 4500 miles in 2 weeks it was excellent

sounds like ur pumped up too much iv just done 300 miles on mine today and no probs so a little time and messing about should do the job !!! good luck anyway

Thanks for your replies!

I was told the same from www.bykebitz.co.uk who are the UK sellers for them when I visited them the other week. When I visited them it was close to 200 miles each way. Going up without the airhawk my bum was a numb. Coming back was much better but even at the end my arse was very uncomfortable. I put it down to my bum being num going there and it hadn't fully recovered coming back. I also am beginning to think that the motorbike leggings I wear cause my bum to get hot which then cause discomfort. Not tried riding my bike with the Airhawk but without the leggings yet.

I did adjust the air several times. I'll just keep testing it out but I think the rear seat will go back as not much point buying something that won't get much use. I have no plans to ride "round the world" just day trips here and there.

What's all this about motorbike leggings? What are they? Do you meam chaps? Could they be causing circulation problems? I don't mean stopping you riding in circles, I mean stopping your blood from getting to your posterior.

Many people swear by sheepskins. I think it's rude to use profane language near farm animals, but apparently they are very comfy to sit on. Why not try one? Cickens are not so comfy, mind.
