I can honestly say threads like this are turning the Airhead section in to a rack of shit, mods stop twirling spanners and yer buying and selling lark and get this once respectable house in order :rob

What do you expect when 1200 riders start to buy Airheads:D

:topic

I have a new bike, very similar to one you used to own and I even saw you ride a couple of times - happy days of years gone by :D

A Silver one?...............my trips are now limited to the "bread shop" on the black thing......then an hour polishing it!

Isn't it exiting in the Piss Baggers section nowadays, has nurse changed your medication chaps? :thumb2

I would prefer both of the Bikes that I have put on this thread, the R80 mono and the R90S, to any "expensive parts bin put together by HPN).........that in reality, (if you would all only admit it), looks like a real "dogs breakfast"

I suppose that's just the difference in some peoples views and we should be able to respect their POV without agreeing with them

For me I think standard/restored low mileage bikes are sort of pointless exercises in showing off and bragging rights... if you want to see a bike in pristine condition go to an auto museum... but what's the point in owning them:nenau if you can't ride them for more than a few miles or you put the mileage on them up... you then have to trailer them everywhere... that's not biking.. that's polishing.
I know of a guy who is a big roadracing fan... he got the chance to buy an RC30 still in the crate about 5 years ago... bought it, loved it but now says it useless... he can do nothing with it... if he rides it it devalues it... all he can do is disconnect the speedo take it to shows in a van and look at it if he wants it to stay in that genuine original trim:blast

Now if you can have an old bike and "use it"(over 2,000 miles a year) while still keeping it in first rate order as it looked when new... now that is something to be proud of.... but still not really my taste.

I like the specials... they're actually are one offs or in single figures anyway... usually built to serve a purpose or improve on failings in the original design and with any luck look purposeful and get used.
I give top marks to the likes of Wreford and Timolgra for really using the bikes they have:thumb2

But at the end of the day it's all down to personal choice:D

And what part of the thread is sir not happy with? I was finding it quite interesting up to the point that the slagging and name calling started.

There's a lot of the airhead riders happily contributing to the thread the bottom line is it's their section and they can make it what they want.

.. he can do nothing with it...

of course he can. he could just use it and take the hit as if if he'd bought it new.
what he's actually done is buy a bike he's too cheap to use.

as to the other valuations...

camille: where's the provenance? without that it's just an old HPN.

bills black R80: very nice, but never a desirable model. £2500. maybe.

r90s: very, very nice, but if i was offered £10K for that, i'd bite the buyers arm off.

D

Exactly what happens with my R80 - used for 6 months of the year and kept in immaculate order.

Just my opinion, if you do not have a taste for the R90S and R80 mono in very good condition - nomatter how they are kept - you should really stick to the newer BMs or to other marques.
The R90 and the R80 are two of the best BMWs ever made.

Camille - I agree - but it cannot be valued in any conventional way - it is a now not the Bike that it once was, it needs bringing back to its, original, 1984 spec., and then auctioned

HPN “Retail” Bikes are a collection of expensive parts trading on the HPN name and marketing image. To built a Bike similar to what HPN market would cost about £7,000 in parts and modification work, plus the cost of the Bike. There are guys in the UK who can do similar work.

Black R80 - £2,500 easy to get - but I would not sell it for £5K
R90S - unique - £8,500 to £10K is attainable..........maybe more in a few years time.
(The above comments are based on offers that I have had and refused)

Market - But as I have always said never on this Forum......

I have sold quite a few of Bikes over the last few years and I know as well as anyone what the market values are.
( I have just sold my R80G/S Paris Dakar, plus Tank and single seat and my last R80GS Basic........sold within a week of advertising, but not to anyone on this Forum).

From my experience, the valuations suggested by many, not all, but by many members of this Forum seem not to be not based upon any practical experience or knowledge of the Airhead market.

it needs bringing back to its, original, 1984 spec., and then auctioned

and in between those two actions, some proof of what it is needs to be produced if it's going to fetch a value in line with it's history.

From what I have read, (in this Forum), this information seems to be available, i.e. it can be proved that it was the original 1984 Penhouse Dakar Bike.......if so, the owner has found a true EBay bargain, and good luck to him, (not sure what he paid for it - but the comment is "not much").

Well if that is the case, "bring on the Americans" the UK needs the foreign currency

I am tending to agree with you (:D )....some people here have no intention of buying but like a quick dig, others don't know their stuff ( me ? :D) but yep, probably anymore of this milarky in the best forum on the UKGSer site...and I'll forward straight to 'selling' section where TunedIn will nab them for not having a price on it :D

So come on guys, pm's only please now for any bikes you want...we all buy and sell on here, lets do it nicely :thumb2

I blame Fanum :)

How much do you reckon my R80 mono is worth,
R80_prof.jpg

Most of you will value the Bike at £2,500, maximum

Thats a very nice bike and I would have thought somewhere around the £2500 as well.

The trouble is just because a bike is in mint condition it doesn't mean someone is going to pay alot of money for it, some bikes are obviously more sought after than offers. Comparing this one to say a GS (a model with a following) is like comparing a mint MK1 Speed Triple to an early Sprint.

I will have a couple if you can get me them in that condition at that price. I prefer black but will consider other colours.

Seriously if you know anyone selling mint Bikes, especially pre 1980s please put them onto me. At one time I think that I had about 9x GS type Bike, thankfully I now have sold all but one, (just sold my last G/S and last Basic), as the "bottom is about to fall out of the GS/S market"
