+ 1 for that. You might well get some gratitude for keeping the bike on show in the public domain but gratitude has a short half life and won't pay the bills.
I would be talking to Bonhams or some other prestigious auction house and sticking the bike in a big auction with a high reserve allowing the bike is advertised around the world

I'm sure you will suffer some heart ache in selling but it sounds very much to me like a worthy cause, so get shot of it to the highest bidder. You have owned it and enjoyed it, now its time to enjoy summat else.
Auction could go either way though, good idea to keep the reserve.
My bike was also riden by a small German. Not worth a much though as he is a retired Lada mechanic and lives on the other side of Cologne.

but from what we know she's not a replica, the guy that had her didn't keep her like that for long
in fact was the other bike a marlboro one with twin lights cos i think you might find its the same bike before and after he fucked it up

I've just read through this entire thread. Makes for interesting reading. I'd also like to know what happened to the bike. Personally I'd be contacting Bonhams. Got to be the best ebay purchase ever?!

my bikes got more provenance, it was once owned by a man of proper height, Johnny Boxer, and I can prove it, his names on the log book!
I've had the pleasure of ramming that bike on The Wayfarers!
It goes even better now days, the suspension works better and the controls, bars brakes etc have all been tweak so it just feels perfect.
It's also just had a proper going over powder coating bits that had got tired, bearings and seal replaced and removing the birds nest of wiring.
I must get it back to some decent trails

So WTF is going on here then? 1984 #101 is stored in HPN's loft and also was converted into a 1985 HPN replica before being restored back to original condition? How did HPN verify the authenticity of the bike? Makes for interesting reading - reminds me of the #1 W.O Bentley race car story.......

I suspect the dogs been barking up the wrong tree, and its been stored as shown, knowing the history of that storage place, why would it have moved in 8 years.

How many 101's are there? There was indeed one on the BMW stand at the NEC, and it wasn't the one Syco had.

Shame about the comments above but back on topic,
I've just re-read this entire thread and googled a load of early BMW Dakar bikes and it's pretty obvious that more than one #101 1984 BMW bike existed. As such I think it's perfectly possible that the bike mentioned in this thread is the real deal along with another bike being stored by HPN.
An update on what happened to the bike would be appreciated.

How am I accused of "can't move on"?? Have you got me confused with someone else? Your comment doesn't make any sense whatsoever.
I only commented early on in this thread. I made a genuine offer to buy it when it was first for sale.
I personally know Trippy, Proff, Syco, Fanum, ATT etc and actually get on with all of them even if some of them can't get on together. I don't subscribe to the theory that "my friend's enemy is my enemy". I take people as I find them but don't expect them to be perfect. We can all be dickheads at times so its better to laugh things off and not take life too seriously.
All of them are welcome at my house but I might be able to sell tickets if they all turned up at the same time.
We do have a shared love of airheads.
Syco kindly phoned me and updated me on Camille but asked me not to post anything about it. I will of course totally respect his wishes and have not discussed it with anyone else at all.
I do have Syco's brother's old Airhead Bertha in my workshop but unfortunately Camille has not joined it as a stable mate.Bertha was of course owned by the Turner family so thats good enough provenance for it to be worth the same amount as Camille if anyone is interested in making me an offer.
