Al Hoceima

The N16 coast road to Al Hoceima from Tetouan has recently been regraded and surfaced in nice grippy tarmac, presumably in preparation for construction of loads of tourist complexes, residences & beach hotels etc. Go before they get built, it's a very comfortable days ride from Ceuta. Had a really nice lunch in the little fishing port of El Jebha in September last year. You'll enjoy the switchback climb out of El Jebha en-route to Al Hoceima. :thumb

Morocco is great riding

I went to Morocco in 2011 with a mate...check out 'billandbobmorocco' on youtube. We rode down from Bradford to Gibraltar in 2 days ( backside was a little sore but gave us more time in Morocco ). We followed a route from Cueta to Tetouan-quezzane-meknes-fes and on through the Atlas Mountains ( great empty roads ) to Errachidia and on to Merzouga and the Sahara. We stopped in small guest houses/hotels when we were tired and the bikes were absolutely fine ( no thieving etc ). Food was basic but tasty, drink only bottled water or coke. People were really friendly. After we left the sahara we went back through the mountains and into Marrakesh. Marrakesh and further west is very commercial with all the faults as is Essaouira. We then travelled up the west coast and back to Gibraltar. Traffic was a lot heavier on the western side of the country. We went in August by the way ( gs showed 50C as we rode in the Sahara..great way to lose weight! :) )

All in all a great trip...When I go back it will be to the great roads within the centre of Morocco..enjoy!

Thanks Blindbill

I agree , Maroc is a great place to ride... The nearest faraway land... The south is nice and where most head for but for me the north is special and I seldom tire of exploring this section. I have taken the N16 as far as Torres de alcala but then headed up the twisties to the N2.. I just never went as far as AL Hoceima as intended and its a itch that I intend to scratch next month..

I'll be there in three weeks or so and will be heading up to the coast on my way back to Ceuta when leaving.
Tim's route sounds good, but is the advice I've read from various folk on here about the Riff beiing a wee bit dodgy/unfreindly still valid?
On my first and only trip 18 months back I was completely comfortable and relaxed on my own out in the middle of nowhere, so it'd be a shame to be avoiding certain areas if I've got the wrong impression.

A nice place to ride a bike

The N16 is worth visiting ... If you like riding a motorcycle you will love riding it on the N16..

Where is (or hopefully was ) the dodgy part Tim?

Put these co-ordinates into Goggle Maps, here - 34.939141 -4.31596 and here - 34.916763 -4.571178

No tarmac through the town and it was absolute bedlam when we passed through last September, but we had no problems from the people. There were ten of us in the group on big bikes though. :D

How the hell could I forget you buggers?:D

But this wasn't on our planned routes, it's something I'd been thinking of doing after you lot bugger off and leave me.

If you want to rearrange things though I'm more than happy to oblige:thumb2
