Before having the recent software update applied, the BMW alarm worked a treat without any problems. However, after the update, the alarm cannot be armed sometimes unless the ignition is switched on then off again. Anyone else experienced this feature?

Haven't noticed this, although I rarely arm the alarm. I shall experiement and report back. But can I ask you, do your accessory sockets still work correctly? Mine have gone on the blink since the recent update.

Accessory socket is fine - well actually I can't be 100% sure as the actual socket is only used by Amanda when she's pillion so that she can plug in her heated jacket. On the other hand, I know that there is some current going to the socket as my relay is powered from the back of it (Intercom is wired to the relay).

exact same issue.
I also had a problem before as the alarm calculator was switching between all its modes by itself, until one day it stopped working. They changed the alarm calculator (not sure it is the right name) and updated the bike software. Now, I have the same issue you have.

What's annoying is that I wasn't experiencing any problems whatsoever before the software update. I only went so that I could have a demo ride on their RT! Didn't like the RT and now I've inherited a fault with the alarm, for free.

Does anyone know if you can have a service and all the faults downloaded etc without having the software update? Like the poster from Swansea, I dont have any probs and I dont want to get any when the bike goes in for service.

The answer is yes. The GT1 can be used ONLY to download the faults.

Yup, me too. I'm thinking of setting the alarm to 'auto arm' to try to get around it.

Ive also been having problems with my accessory socket turning off then on again repeatedly. Its consistent 3 minutes off then 1 minute on, however it does work correctly sometimes.

I went back to the dealer but of course it working correctly when I got there and they said that there wasn't any problem.

There is obviously some problem with this latest software and BMW need to fix it! The only way that they will realise theres a problem is by everybody going back to the dealers and asking for their alarm/accessory socket problems to be fixed. Stress that the problem only started after the latest software update.

If theres a problem with the software the problem wont go away on its own and is likely to fail when you dont want it to!

What does the latest update actually do, and how recent is it?
