Alarming Bike weave

on purpose i waited to reply to this .i have had a weave on my 2011 gs for a little while now ,i thought it was my pr4 coming to a square end ,but no .
i have had movement from 6 and 12 holding the rear wheel.i thought it was a rear bearing ,and no it wasnt it was the pivot bearings ,i have replaced them this morning ,an hours job including changing the f/d oil .
and low and behold the bike is fine now ,no weave what so ever.
it was mentioned earlier on in this thread that it could be a number of things and the pivot bearings were mentioned ,so hey hats of to that guy he was correct :thumb

The final drive trunnion on my bike was in a very bad way. I needed new bearings and inner sleeves. When they were replaced I noticed no difference in handling before and after.

They rock back and forth over a small angle so really benefit from being fully packed with grease. I used the high moly EP grease used in car driveshaft CV joints.

I wanted to post a reply to this as have had similar issues with my GSA.

I was running Tourance Next tyres, and after returning from my Alps trip I have tried various things to get rid of the problem. I even booked the bike in to my local dealer to be checked out, but they could not find any mechanical issues with it. However when I rode it I just felt that something was not quite right?

I decided to try different tyres, and have now had a set of Michelin Pilot Road 4 Trail's fitted; as had used regular PR4's on my previous KTM and really liked them.

Some 250 miles later, it feels like the bike has been transformed. The 'death weave' seems to be gone, and the bike feels a lot more stable generally. Roll on many more happy miles on my GSA.

I have Conti TKC-70s on mine (Road and Trail Attacks use the same tyre carcass and tread materials). When first fitted the bike steering felt knife edged. I thought how will I cope with these, but soon settled in and its likely many other types will feel like bus boots.

Yukon? Pah! South Devon is SOOOO much better -
 • fab climate
 • Sea.
 • Sand
 • Dartmoor
 • River Dart with its paddle steamer
 • Teign Valley.
 • Green lanes

Why is there a solid line in the middle of that road?
What's going to be coming the other way apart from a tree or a fucking cloud?

You should know that moose always cross from the left. ;) And the local plod need an excuse to catch some crimms.
