Hi All,

Just wondered if folk have had experience with a claim under alloy wheel insurance.

The car we hve chosen has some bling (ish) 18" rims expensive to replace and given what has happened to a few mates on Lincolnshire roads, thought I would look into it. Researched the cover, prices, blah, blah, but not the same as dealing with a claim.

We don't usually subscribe to extended warranties or cover for anything, but with a new wheel somewhere around £1000 and such policies anywhere
from £ 250 -600 for 3 or 4 years cover, the pro and cons need to be carefully considered.

Thanks

A very rough guide here:

Like any insurance policy:

A. Read it, not least as cover is often limited to just refurbishing, not replacing the wheel and, might depend on the ‘bling’ factor of your ‘bling’ wheels.

B. Bods who have bought it and claimed more than they paid in premium, will think it “Great mate”. Others who have not bought it, not damaged their wheels and put £10 a week in a special box under their bed, might well say: “It’s a rip off, mate”.

In short, buy it or don’t. You’ll know if it was a great decision in 12 months time. You’ll also know if it was a great idea to buy bling wheels, when you believe there’s a good chance of them being damaged….. or maybe your mates can’t drive? We read lots here that only members of UKGSer are able to drive, their senses honed by wobbling around on a motorcycle :augie

I believe if you can evidence the damage caused to wheels etc buy poor road conditions there is a way of claiming from the local authority - A mate has been successful in doing this with his flashy Mercedes wheels and tyre.

Alloy wheel insurance is predominantly for when the Mrs kerbs them :ROFLMAO:

Get a set of steel wheels until the government decide to fix the roads, or move to one of our European neighbours with their lovely smooth roads, that we most likely paid for

I've successfully claimed compensation twice, both on motorbikes....
It takes time and patience but was quite profitable in the end 👍

Claimed against Wrexham council once for a pothole damaged alloy

Their stance was 'not their fault...all reasonable steps met...it was your fault'

They do have a defence within the RTA
Got all relevant maintenance recorded from the date and preceeding 12 months via FOI
All the way to a court date when they folded
Full payout...costs and preparation costs paid to me
It will have cost them the Liverpool solicitors they used as well
Get lots of photos
Pain in the fucking arse

Also, if you have diamond cut alloys, a little of policies exclude them.... BMW for one

The misses has just bought a new A3 Sportback that came with expensive looking wheels so took out the wheel insurance and if memory serves me correctly she can have up to 12 claims over the 3 years of the cover which considering the cost of replacement or repair of wheels against the cost of the cover seemed good value to me.

Hi Dave,
same car here, the S-line with 18" wheels.
Was the cover bought via Audi dealer, if so would you mind to pm me the details of cover, cost and company underwriting it.
My Audi dealer wanted £599 for 4 years cover. Many thanks

Hi there
Yes, she got it through her dealer - Vindis Audi Peterborough - at a cost of £500 for 3 years. She was also quoted £599 if she wanted 4 years.
