Alps 2009 - let's do it

Magnum, rather than make a huge logistical nightmare for yourself it might be an option to provide a suggested route along with some recommended sights to see plus the daily/nightly rendezvous point and let natural selection take it's course,I'm all for a mad charge with a fast-er group but from time to time I'll want to drop into tourist mode and soak up the views, visit some interesting places and take some pics along the way, there's more to see and do in the Alps than a week permits anyway, just my 0.02c ;)
I think this subject falls into the category of not pleasing everyone all the time :nenau

Every trip will have a focus and this one is geared around riding great roads. By splitting the group into 3 speed categories we get over the problems associated with keeping together, slowness of re-fuelling and forcing people to ride at a pace they are not comfortable with. There's a hell of a lot of fun to be had knowing that you're riding with a handful of mates who share the same passion as you for this experience. If that wasn't important I'd be doing this trip alone as I'm looking at the Alps out of my study window right now :D

Having said all that I bet there's not a person on this trip, me included, that won't want to stop and soak in the scenery, take plenty of pics and do a bit more than just ride their bikes. The pace and detail of the daily schedule will probably just happen on the fly so I wouldn't worry :)

dont get me wrong, didnt mean i plan to stay in some flea pit for 20chf a night etc..... prices mentioned are absolutly fine 4 me just had some experiences of swiss 4* prices - which were shocking.
Nice one Rob :thumb

Sorry if I've missed it in previous threads.. but will this be a different hotel every night or a couple of nights here and a couple there sort of trip..?

A different one every night, that way we get to cover some reasonable ground. There's a lot of amazing roads in this area. It would be great to ride as many as possible whilst still retaining the "holiday" element, hangovers notwithstanding :D

Best Western Hotel Bahnhof Terminus *** 113/196 CHF (no breakfast)

just for info:

i stayed there last winter for a short snowboarding trip. not the most upmarket hotel in the world, but ok sort of place, friendly. semi knackered bathroom.

Hi Magnum.

Your trip sounds great, always wanted to see the Alps.

I'm a touring novice, only done one trip to Belgium so far, and going to Normandy next May, but would really like to put my name forward as a maybe?

If welcome, let me know.:thumb2

I'm very interested in what the rough costs would be. You *may* like the comfort of a massage and a spa bath followed by a 4 course gourmet meal at the end of every day, for all I know ;)

As many members on this website / forum will vouch (based on their post-trip comments & personal e.mails we have received), we are on the RDGA, have a 7 seat spa bath & serve excellent food which includes unlimited beer & wine throughout your stay, plus we have plenty of secure overnight garaging for just 40 Euros per person per night.
This price is based on 2 sharing a room, other rates for other combinations - single, triple, etc.

Cheers, Steve

You couldn't send me that great photo of the bendy road could you please. Might even join this trip myself, however could be doing similar earlier in the year.

Sorry chaps - can't get the time off work you're talking about, so will have to bow out gracefully.

I'll keep an eye on then thread, as I may try to organise myself for an earlier trip there.

If it changes I'll holler, but I'll just keep lurking for the moment.

Cheers

JB

Just watch the weather in late September - managed to get snowed in at end of September going from Bormio to Zurich - got to top of Stelvio pass but top blocked by snow, ended up in St Moritz then got snowed in there too.

Next day got down to Como and back to 20 deg C again

Still, all part of the fun

I'm off on holiday for the next 12 days :Motomartin

I'll check the forum when I can :)

Hi Magnum ,

please could you contact me by PM , I have a question for you ,

Thanks Pogo

I have been quietly reading about your planned trip, unfortunately work appointments (trade show) during that week will prohibit to come along.
But while looking through the calender, I realized that your trip ends on the 18th of September and the Okoberfest in Munich  starts on the 19th, so maybe some of you would want to extend the stay and do the sort run up to Munich, just a thought. Have fun.
