alps/germany trip june

First trip form UK the Black Forest / B500 will seem pretty awesome.

My advice would be not to travel with two muppets who expect someone else to organise their trip for them and then make demands on the pace of the trip and the accommodation arrangements, this will be a far bigger challenge for this trip....

...the next trip will be far easier as this friendship should well and truly be over so the OP can sort himself out a real nice trip such as RDGA and stay in the wonderful variety of good value Hotels the Alps has to offer.

May be a bit late now, but you could try Pension William in the Black Forest, very affordable accommodation with English Owners (as I reckon the Ops' buddies are the sort to insist on such things) A week here is probably a bit much, but 3 nights here and maybe the same in the Vosges would be a good choice IMO.

The B500 is very long - the "best bit" (Famous / heavily policed / frequented by dickheads) section is the first 25 or so miles South of Baden Baden - try and avoid it at weekends where it can be very busy (with lots of Plod) I tend to run this section first thing in the morning or in the evening when in that region.

Anywhere else in the Black Forest region is good, can be some traffic near the larger towns, but I bet all the routes offered so far will be great rides.

A base for a few nights is perfect to allow circular routes, especially as camping and the aggro of setup / tear down.

Should be a great trip (apart from the two Muppets for company)

Good luck, look forward to the report.

Having followed the above excellent advice a couple of times, you can then start to string together rides of your own, expanding your knowledge of various areas.

Having my sisters place in Frankfurt as a base, I have discovered quite a few areas worth exploring not too far away, like Spessart, which I have rarely seen mentioned, or the hinterland in the arc from Heidelburg through Schwäbisch Hall and on - Neckar to the Danube. Not forgetting the lots of small valleys and ridges in between.

Hi everyone thanks for the post.
i Dont want to do the whole trip on the B500 tbh i havent really looked into what its like to ride but like i say in the first few post my buddies are not helping in anyway the trip was ment to be solo they have tagged along and i feel i have jeopardized parts of the trip for them, but anyway i could moan but i just want to enjoy it as its the first of many hopefully.

Also following from Wappings post i did the cat and fiddle and didnt think much to it at all far better is the snake pass.

Rasher thank you i know it will be a good hopefully there will be no falling out.

Ding dong thank you for the advice i will keep an eye out for that.

The whole time iv been looking at this Jaunt iv been mainly looking at the alps knowing that there would be some closed passes, id rather not worry to much about that and explore somewhere else.

I CANT BE ARSED WITH CAMPING..

thank you for all the advice and if anyone has anymore im all ears.

Smithy

Smithy, here's the Kurvenkoenig routes for the Black Forest. More than enough, as there are 14 of them.

http://kurvenkoenig.de/motorrad/schwarzwald-breisgau.html

To get the GPS downloads you have to join the free forum. I guessed how to join and got there in the end. You can create the routes from the sites maps anyway and it's good practice for your Nav V and BaseCamp skills. Take no notice of anyone who tells you it's crap. They are numpties who couldn't find their arse with a mirror *

The Tourenfahr site has ideas for the Vosges and Black Forest, too. I can't open them up on my iPad but they'll be fine, I'm sure.

* That's a joke by the way. Or maybe not. Or maybe it is.....

HAHA i like basecamp marry it up with google earth it pretty good plus michlin maps too you cant go wrong.

It is still a current thread. A real epic from 2010. Something to keep you entertained while the other two try to make up a mind.
He should make the effort to read it, to see the sort of gratitude he can expect. Even after he has gone the extra mile or two, on more than one occasion.

Having been put in a similar situation (once only) as the OP, if he can't just dump them now because of misplaced loyalty, which would really be the best course of action all round, he should lay down very firmly the ground rules. Organisers decision is final. First sign of dissent, wish them well and send them packing, because all the difficulties and problems will be your fault.
Any attempt at compromise, because that is the "decent thing", or being nice or trying to accommodate the foibles of no-nothings will just end in tears. Mostly the OP's

It is his trip after all. He should print that off and stick it inside his windshield. And give a copy to the free loaders.

They come, share the work and responsibility.
They come, but show absolute deference and respect and do as they are told.
They organise their own trip.
They stay home.

I'm glad my next trip is a solo one (Billy no mates) and I can spend as long as I want sat outside a petrol station sheltering from the rain drinking coffee and smoking tabs with nobody to moan at me.

HAHA Parchmen i like your style its strange how its happened i think i sold my own trip by talking about it and somehow its been twisted (yes to accommodate) but im not going to let that spoil it for me it has been many years in the making this trip.

I agree with the ground rules part as they have taken not one bit of interest in where we are going they are leaving up to me.
My plan was to go to Nice arrive there on the Thursday and say right lets head back lnowing that they wont have a clue how long it will take us.

By the by i will be taking everyones advice and enjoying the trip im sure a few people on here have had a similar problem before.

thanks to Wapping for your advice and recommendations.

As a last note and because i will be heading to Germany and the Black forest is there some WW2 stuff to look at round the Strasbourg area i dont mean that to come across as disrespectful but as in Germany and with the current Brexit i prob wont be able to see it soon.

Can we have a vote on how many days it is into the trip before you get up early and sneak off before they've had breakfast :D
