Well, we got back last night.
What a fantastic week
We left early last Wednesday using the tunnel and rode down to Beaune, some 500 miles
Lunch the next day in Grenoble and the start of day 1 afterwards. We caught up and finished day 3 in Bourg St. Maurice as planned. Day 4 back to Grenoble, then the last 2 days getting home via non motorway routes. Grenoble to Troyes and then Troyes to home.
Weather was, on the whole, fantastic, quite warm even on the tops of the Cols. Two afternoons of cloud and light rain was unfortunate and meant we didn't do 2 of the mountains.
We got rooms every night quite easily, but a lot is closing down and the restaurants are very quiet. The Arolla in Bourg St Maurice was closed but we used a biker friendly place nearby that we superb, cheap and had a spottles garage.
La Bonnette was unbloodybelievable, I was a happy chap riding that one.
In total we covered about 2,300 miles and my 1100 GS never skipped a beat, used 500ml of oil.
As predicted day 2 and 3 were the best, day 1 had too much Route Napoleon but it was a good intro. Especially as I hadn't ridden for the best part of 3 years.
