Is the correct way to lace them up as in the picture on the Altberg website ? Has anyone used a different way ?

If sir is having problems with the laces, perhaps sir would prefer the slip on ones?

I find putting an "L" and "R" on the tops of my boot using Tipex helps get things right in the morning.
As long as I match up the letters with the ones my wife had tatooed on the back on my hands, the boots are more comfortable.
