My 2016 R1200RLC has the BMW nav cradle and wonderwheel fitted along with a BMW Motorrad Nav VI, which has recently started to play up. As I think the Nav VI is not the easiest bit of kit to use, never mind when it appears to have a mind of its own, I'd like to replace it with a more modern unit capable of Apple airplay, Waze etc and see there are quite a few brands to choose from, including some BMW connected ride units. The MotorTablet Pro Max looks good but it tells me it's not compatible with a 2016 R1200RLC. Does anyone have any real world experience of which brands would work with my bike and what they are like to live with?

Do a search here for "Carpuride" and also check the website. I along with quite a few on here are using their products. I use one on my R1200RS 2017.....it has wonderwheel support and is perfect for running Android Auto/Apple Carplay. It clips into the BMW Nav Cradle and locks in. You have a lot of choices these days.

Many thanks, it appears the Carpuride will work with a 2016 R1200RLC with a factory fitted nav mount and wonder wheel so I've ordered the 6" model. As an aside I left it in the shopping basket overnight and received an email with a code giving me a further 33% off so it 'only' cost a shade over £200, way less than half of what BMW want for their connected ride effort and a third of what I paid for the god awful Nav VI 9 years ago!

I'm glad you didn't pay full price.....33%—35% discount is the norm.

Also.... I hope you ordered the model without "B" at the end.

The are a fantastic unit......enjoy it!!!

From my own experience ( 2021 R1250GS) The following units should fit your bike:

Carpuride W702BS/W602BS.
Chigee AIO5/6.
RiderNav R7M.

Download the maps you need onto your device and you are not reliant on cell signal.
Carry a small power bank with you......so I battery drain on your device shouldn't be an issue either.

I have had Garmin, TomTom, BMW Nav units.......
Never again. I basically, now, have the same multimedia/mapping/navigation as I use in my car.
Seamless.

Are we gonna start all this again.

If you want a Tom Tom there is this:

However I purchased a second hand Chigee AIO5 from here to test the water. I was so pleased that I sold the Garmin. Is it perfect? For my needs yes.

I've never had any issues with a Nav 6, maybe I've been lucky. Easy to use and not let me down yet. The Garmin based nav on my car is a different story. Frequently plays up and gets lost! I now exclusively use Apple maps with my phone connected to a usb input for the car and it's head and shoulders a better navigation tool.

did you read the original post as this was the recommendation sought as the OP is fed up with the shite Nav6?
My reading of his wish list gave me the impression that they could only be fulfilled by a car play unit? He mentions Waze, Apple 'Airplay' (Which I assume is Apple Car Play).

Well Apple Airplay is Apple Airplay but yes, I did mean Apple CarPlay!

I ordered the W602BS unit as I think the W702BS is just slightly to large a screen for the resolution of 1024 x 600 (17:10 ratio), as opposed to 1080 x 540 (2:1 ratio) of the W602BS.

I have a 702BS and I think the 602BS would be perfect.

Just waiting on some to show up here in the For Sale section.
Inevitably, people buy these things....and for some reason or another....just don't get on with them.

Fantastic bits of kit 👍
