Hi folks found an alternative to the plastic cable ties that hold on the paralever gaiter .. found some stainless steel cable ties that fit ..tried earlier:thumb2 ..4.6mm x 800mm £ 6.00 for ten inc postage ..got them off ebay from Digital Isle Ltd :thumb2

Cable ties!
I stopped using cable ties years ago.
Fitted these puppies instead, and find them so much easier to use.

Where did you get those from ??

Motorworks.

The rear one is the standard fit to the R1100 final drive.

The front one is from one of the BMW bikes, but which one escapes me, it was a long time ago. Might be the front one for the R1100. Anyway the one I got was too large for the R1150 swinging arm, so it needed to be shortened.

I just cut it down to the required length. The end fittings are spot welded to the band with 2 small spot welds. I just drilled two small holes where the welds were on one of the end fittings, cut the band to the required length. drilled 2 small holes in the band and riveted it back together. It's a bit fiddly, and requires a bit of thought. I chose to rivet it because at the time, it was the easiest solution.

Edit
They are both from the R1100GS
Rear = diameter of 90mm part no 33171458197
Front = diameter of 132mm part no 33172335120

Steptoe can tell you what you need that won't need modifying. It's probably posted on multiple threads in this section. Sorry, I can't remember which ones he recommended.

cheers .. Im sure I read somewhere that bmw stopped supplying those and thats why they supply the plastic cable tie now ... oh well good to know .. :thumb2

The stainless cable ties are really nice but they are locked by a tiny ball bearing which grips the band which means that in order to lock off they actually loosen very slightly, probably not a problem as the boot has some give anyway, not easy to remove though when you need to get them off without damaging the boot itself.
