I ordered a new alternator drive belt for my 2007 R1200GS which I tried to fit today. Problem is the old belt says 4PK592 but the new one says 4PK582 so therefore 10mm shorter. I've not tried to fit it for fear of damaging the alternator bearings but does it matter/would it be ok to fit?
As a footnote the original belt has done 33,000 miles and I have occasionally smelt warm rubber hence changing it, good job too as there was a frayed edge starting which when I pulled it ran all around the belt and across the full width of it.

cheers-Tony

I have the same year as you and had exactly the same question last year. I was initially issued with the wrong belt as mines a very late 2007 and the dealer assumed I'd want the shorter belt (fitted 2008 on). The correct belt for the 2007 GS is 'BMW 12.31 - 7681841 - 692637 - 4PK592 CONTITECH'.
