2009 gs on way home battery light came on just about got home put in garage in disgust :blast going to have a look tomorrow obviously I’ll check battery voltage is regulator in alternator? any thing else I should
Check and tips on getting alternator off it looks well hidden :thumby:

Get a load of releasing fluid on the bolts and keep doing it for a few days. At least one of them if not all of them will be rusted solid. Good fitting torx bits or sockets as required. Get them on straight and true and be very careful.
I rounded one and snapped the head off another. One of the few jobs I have ever ended up at a workshop with.

Sounds sensible :thumb before I rush out and buy can I test for power at alternator or is this no no on can bus system

Could be the belt! I think the regulator is on the back of the alternator on this model, you can test the power by adding test points to the battery terminals if it goes from 12v to 13-14v when yous start it then it is working properly and you have another issue.

Yes I was thinking if I haven’t got 14v at battery could I go on back of alternator and test there :thumb

Take the front plastic engine cover off and check the alternator belt before you start testing and worrying about the actual alternator .

Belt is ok no charge at battery , any tips on getting alternator off presume I need to lift tank I have all plastic side covers and tank over off , I can see it’s a denso but can’t make out any numbers till I get it off :blast

Denso alternators are ok but the case cracks after insides get wet, have a quick search on here and you will find lots of stories. The best bet is to look for a used Bosch and adapt the wiring harness and maybe the belt / pulley. I need to get another one soon as the case on mine is split. A new Denso is about £700 from a dealership and a used Bosch is about £150 from eBay. There is a great post on here about the different types along with pulley size and part numbers, I think it was posted by Mr Hartley but I also know I contributed to it so a search of my posts will bring it up, Steptoe also posted pictures of the failed Denso Alternators that he has replaced in the same thread
Let us know how you get on
