Any tips for shifting this?

Have tried using the retaining bolt to extract it, by inserting a 2in bolt with head cut off and screwing in bolt

Bolt ended up twisting. Tried with a different bolt - sheared off completely

Should be able to get broken bolt out with screw extractor but have run out of options to shift the rotor...

If you keep tightening the bolt it will twist ,the last one I did was with the proper tool tightened it up then one tap with a hammer on the bolt head and the rotor was off.

thanks for offer; ordered the tool on friday

unfortunately not sure If will have opportunity to use as didn't have much luck extracting the sheared off bolt at weekend

now have sheared off tip of screw extractor in sheared off bolt...

:blast

may to have involve a professional at this stage.

more frustration also when removing head bearing nut (one with the slots in it). Would barely move and when it did it was just stripping the thread on the steering stem. Got it off eventually but steering stem is probably junk now - though was probably going to have to replace anyway as the left lock stop was broken, and had been repaired by drilling a large hole thru the yoke (not even remotely square to the yoke) and sticking a large bolt thru it. Nice.

Anyone got a bottom yoke/stem they would consider flogging? (new price is hideous)

Keep away from stud extractors, tools of the devil. They've caused more problems than they've ever solved.

yeah - figured it was a gamble, but went ahead on basis it wasn't an ancient seized/corroded in bolt - just one I had screwed in very tightly the day before

one lives and learns...

If the broken extractor bolt is still tight against the spacer, I would hit it a smack on the chance that the grip on the taper might break free. Realise the busted extractor is in there too, but if you can get a punch onto the screw end and smack it, it might come free. Hit the bolt only, not the rotor..

worth a go I suppose, though had given the bolt which sheared off a couple of good whacks before I resorted to excessive force

gentle heat onto the end of the rotor in the centre, or even a kettle of boiling water over the barsteward. Small temp increase might free the taper.

I was daft enough bugger a bar up inside the hole (which bent when I tightened a caphead up against it) ended up warming it up with a hot air gun thinking I would knacker rotor up but still tighning the bent rod with a few taps of a hammer it came off - got a tool now but would warm it up again first if needed to remove

There will be a mass of tut tutting but...

I've just given the steel 'claw' of the windings a sharp rap with a hammer while pulling on the rotor and had it pop off....

A wee mark was all the damage and if it's goosed you're either going to buy a new one or have it refurbed anyway:comfort

Have you any idea how hot a rotor gets when the engine is running

You can't pick the feckers up for 30 minutes until they've cooled down. :D

Ordered the £6 "tool" from motorworks two weeks ago. It arrived and looked at what seemed to be a 40p bolt from B&Q machined down in the front. Tightened it up and the bolt head sheared off :blast

Stuck a puller on the rotor and tightened it up, wacked it with a hammer on the windings and it popped off :friday

Even better after I installed the new rotor it was still not working and in the end it was the voltage regulator that needed replacing

glad it's just not me....

Have taken engine over to Boxerman in Leics - hoping he will find more success

I'm only taking the bleeder off so I can get the timing cover repainted
