Aluminium box's

So I decided to send the pics to the dealer as this seems a little too extreme considering how long the bikes been on the road.

It's now with their after sales guy...

So a month on the road and I've noticed the marking on all the box's. I'm assuming it's a reaction to road salt. Is this a common thing for the aluminium to do this?

Yes mine are exactly the same, first bit of road salt and they look shite, mine have been polished with wax polish during the summer and also sprayed with GT85 after each wash. I think they have changed to a cheaper quality aluminium because I did not have this issue with my 2014 treated exactly the same way

You will probably polish that out with an electric polishing mop and some cutting paste then either wrap, spray with lacquer or ACF 50 as previously stated.

I've tried polishing mine with a mop and cutting paste you can still see the dots from where the corrosion was.

Hi Terry, that's a bummer :( I don't understand why BMW don't anodise these during manufacture the price they charge for them they ought to be.

Aren't they made by Touratech still? That would make sense, as most of their stuff is shite.

I believe so Nutty, and like I've said the ones on my 2014 were definitely better quality. It's like everything these days cost cutting to make more profit.

Generally described as " aluminium rust"!

Described wrongly, I believe only ferrous metals rust.

You're taking the pi$$, surely.

I side with 2 wheel humvee - ferrous metals rust; others just corrode - "go furry" . :rob

That is why I wrote "aluminium rust" in inverted commas! It's a generic description of aluminium corrosion - I know it isn't rust, per se. It's like using the term "hoover" when you actually have a Dyson!
Shit, and I thought I was pedantic! :beerjug::beerjug::comfort:comfort:comfort
