Described wrongly, I believe only ferrous metals rust.
You're taking the pi$$, surely.

So a month on the road and I've noticed the marking on all the box's. I'm assuming it's a reaction to road salt. Is this a common thing for the aluminium to do this?

Me to and you don't look like a knob lol ... only joking but Varios are great , plastic , hard wearing and removable .. winnnerIt's why I prefer plastic(Givi) cases or Varios.
You will probably polish that out with an electric polishing mop and some cutting paste then either wrap, spray with lacquer or ACF 50 as previously stated.
I've tried polishing mine with a mop and cutting paste you can still see the dots from where the corrosion was.
Terry
Hi Terry, that's a bummerI don't understand why BMW don't anodise these during manufacture the price they charge for them they ought to be.
Aren't they made by Touratech still? That would make sense, as most of their stuff is shite.
Generally described as " aluminium rust"!

I side with 2 wheel humvee - ferrous metals rust; others just corrode - "go furry" .![]()

Did you coat the hinges too. Where they sprayed or dipped?
That is why I wrote "aluminium rust" in inverted commas! It's a generic description of aluminium corrosion - I know it isn't rust, per se. It's like using the term "hoover" when you actually have a Dyson!
Shit, and I thought I was pedantic!![]()

Does anodising prevent corrosion?
