You're not the only one to have a 'Err' propper bike stashed away at the front of the garage. My 1200 compliments my airhead very nicely indeed. :thumb2 Wouldn't be with out it either.

Val.

:rob You certainly aren't! :thumb

well i picked the st up and have just got back, first ever airhead ride, well for a start i neeed to go back to the vendor to ask for the front brake which he obviously has forgotten to refit, the headlamp is as good if not slightly better than my 1200:eek:.the gearbox is slicker and quieter than my 1200:eek::eek:,the engine is so smooth and willing and pulls really well esp in the higher gears which is a surprise:eek::eek::eek:.apart from the slight rise from the rear on take off the fd seems really good :thumb2.the seat though seems very hard but maybe ok on a run i dont know yet.
overall quite pleased really and surprised how good it is.time will tell weather i gel with it or get rid.looks crap without the panniers on and all that iron work hanging out though.

:eek::eek: sounds like its fucked. I will save you all the hassle and offer you £45 for it. Let me know when I should come to collect :thumb

Get out there and ride it. :rob Don't waste your time trying to compare it to the 1200. You'll fail. Appriciate the fact that the ST is a very different toy and that it's headlight is much better than the 1200's will ever be. Don't like the look without the panniers? Then put them back on and it'll always look great. :thumb2:D

BTW you can upgrade the front brake quite easily by adding another disc and calliper, I believe.

Have fun Val.

not really compairing in a critical way but the 12 is all i have to go against,im actully very surprised how good is is:thumb

That's why people think they handle well, but it's never by choice :D:D:D

They don't get any softer with use :blast.

I once did just under 600 miles on my 100GS and it was agony - not a patch on the 1150 ADV on which I have comfortably done a 1,000 mile day :rob.

People fit 'Airhawk' seat pads if they're doing high mileage. Either that or a much better rear shock :D.

Welcome to the slippery slope :clap

Sounds like you're having fun on your airhead :D
I know what you mean about the front brake  the one on my R80GS is fecking useless - but I like to think that riding it is a practical leeson in honing my anticipation skills.

As for the revving - when I first got mine, I had Steve Scriminger vlean all the carbs out & set the fuelling & valves up, as it had been stood at the back of a grage for 10 years.
he told me that airhead boxer engines thrive on having the tits revved off them - so I'vwe been following his advice ever since & it's an excellent way of riding ( you need some revs when you've only got 50 bhp anyway:D )

No shouldn't be
have you got a cross brace behind mud guard :nenau like a GS
your welcome to meet up and compare racks from my r100gs

Have you got a picture of this 'cross brace' at all.

Just overhauled pannier set and fitted to my ST.

Making them a bit more rigid would be an improvement.

The ST is a much better bike than the g/s. fit a 1000cc rs engine in there and have some serious fun for not a lot of money.

I've got a foot in both camps, so I find that a hard one to call. I know I always feel strangely 'narrow' when I'm back on the ST after riding the GS for a while. I've a theory that my ST was turned out with the steepest-within-tolerance steering head angle (frame build tolerances in Spandau, never!), because it's always been a very quick turner on ME33s - but then again that's also probably a contrast thing (I've never ridden another ST).

well i have just taken off the pannier rails and the fugly screen thing and its looking much better.everthing came undone and i noticed some nice touches such as the adjustable foot pegs and bolt on rear subframe with everything really accesable, nice.
