An equipment Dilemma...

I have a pair of hardly worn BMW Rallye 2 GS Boots. They look great but are very hot and cumbersome and weigh as much as my loaded bike. I did wear them on my trip to southern Spain, which has got me into this dilemma. I also have a pair of lightweight assault boots, which are just like Magnums. They are light, comfortable and allow the air to pass through to the feet. Now, going to Italy, I see this as a massive bonus. I doubt I will see much rain, and both boots are not water proof anyway. I could wear my gortex socks with the Magnums, but i would be Compromising on the protection the GS boot provides.
So, what should I use? The heavy, hot cumbersome GS boot,(great protection) or the lightweight (cool) Magnum boot?

Help on my decision would be greatly appreciated

Buy some water-proof socks, wear the light-weight boots.

Depends if you're going off road or not

If you're not, what's the point in wearing off road boots? Assuming you're happy with the crash protection of the other boots.

Protection and safety every time..you never know when you may need it..... A example: A friend in France pulled away from the service station and didnt notice the island with the pump stuck out under the fairing... Pulling away he caught his footpeg and squashed his ankle as the peg folded against the peg.....
ended up with a very black ankle but if it was in normal boots wouldhave been broken for sure.

you'll be a little uncomfortable if your feet get hot and sweaty. You'll be a little worse off with a broken ankle or shin bone. I'd be looking into buying a lighter weight pair of propper motorcycle boots.
Just my two penneth.

You already know the answer to this one mate.

I`d have severely crushed or lost my foot if I`d been wearing non biking boots when I had my crash....as it was I still cracked the ball of my ankle.

Leave the military style boots for playing soldier and ride in proper bike boots

Magnums, had some myself and upto the job if you aren't a speed freak, but then again I've never had an accident worth mentioning.

But, it has come down to 3 going with the safety of the GS boot, and 3 going with the comfort of the lightweight boot.

Safety always over comfort, but i have to add up the fact im not going off road.

It's never that simple is it Mike I will make my decision the night before I ride

I'd take stinky hot feet over compound fractures any day of the week.

I wear Tech 3's all the time now. I have found that putting a sheet of bounce in them keeps them smelling a bit better but will have to get some propper stuff now the hot weathers coming.

I am a size ten....

And if Cookie says sell em, then, well let me have a think about it. Not 100% sure I will though, ill probably buy the road boots as well.

Re the road boots I have a pair of daytona roadstar GTX's. They're superb. I've had them about 2 years now, wear them every day and they are as comfy as a pair of slippers. I usually end up mooching round the house in them because you forget you've got bike boots on. They're totally waterproof, not too hot if worn with thin socks in the summer and snug with bridgedales in the winter. Loads of adjustment, armour in the shin and ankle and a full lenghth zip down the outside so once theyre adjusted to suit they're on and off in seconds. can't recomend them enough
