Does anyone know the tread depth in the centre of an anakee 3 when new?
170/60 r17.
I am planning ahead for a tyre change, i got the mileage since i fitted it but need the new tread depth to calculate when it will run out.
Thanks.

So that puts me down to .59 mm after my trips.

Thanks, and is that in the center, beside the wear indicators? "he says clutching at straws.

was in the center on both tyres so give maybe a mm on both for the 1200 kms and weight and you have an idea what you have left, for me when a tyre gets squared off or down to 3mm I change them to avoid punctures, not so bad if you ride solo

I’ve just put on Conti trail attacks they are excellent and much quieter!

My general rule of thumb is 1000 miles/mm for a rear. Rear measured at centre, front is usually on the RH shoulder (in UK and other left-side driving states). Take a peek at your front tyre and you may well find it's flattened off to the right of the centre line, not the centre itself. I generally get about 1.5 fronts to a rear. And I don't care about mixing tyres. Always done it and never had a problem. You won't DIE if you try it as some might suggest...

The Anakee 3s are quite long lasting tyres, above average I’d say

I got over 10,000 km out of my OEMs

I do 1:1 front and rear cos I trail brake, always have, by the time the back squares off the front is a V shape and gets shoulders at the chicken strips so I change in pairs

My rear tyre has about 2.6mm remaining and might just about get me home from Santander via Picos, Pyrenees and France but I am fitting a new tyre now for three reasons:

1) Better riding pleasure, only one bike holiday so make the most of it.
2) Hopefully less risk of a puncture with new rubber.
3) If I should need a tyre on the return through France, I really don't want the hassle of tyre shopping whilst abroad.

I was told that wear rates accelerate as tyres wear, its not a linear ratio of miles ridden to mm of tread left.

Chummy says he’s planning to change tyres on a watercooled, personally, I find the road noise of the Annakees intrusive, so do a number of others!according to posts on here. I offfered a suggestion, frankly I don’t give a FF what others think, I was offering the OP an alternative which he may/may not have considered.

Both your post and Smugbobs earlier contributions added zilch to the post in true UKGSER fashion :dabone

It's not like the VFR forum is it? I always found your suggestions welcome and helpful on that forum. Slightly off thread but valid. :thumb2

Thanks for replies.
Even the off piste ones are entertaining.

Wish i got 1000 miles per mm.
At 3000 miles i got 2.5 left, 667 per mm.
I don't think i am heavy on the throttle.

Interesting about the wear rate accellerating, you would think it would be the other way round as there is a broader contact patch as they wear, but in practice it does seem to accellerate.

Re the trail braking, i have always done it too. On me dear old transalp, tyre wear was 1 to 1, and previous 2010 gs similar but this one, 2016 lc, I find it difficult to do it well, maybe linked brakes are interfering somehow.
