Anakee or tourance ???

I am about to change tyres and i dont know what to do..Anakee or Tourance ???

I go off-road when i can but sadly,the main use will be on tarmac..Although,i like to have a "dirtier" tyre,and loose some grip on tarmac..

What do you suggest ??

I went from anakee to tourance - its like riding a different bike, much better in the wet and on road lines.

If you don't mind loosing some grip on tarmac, and you'ld like to have a more off-roadtyre, try the Continental TKC's.

Heard that they're as good as Anakee's on dry surface, and they go a lot further off-road.
Just watch out in the rain, it's a bitt different from a normal all-road tyre

Forgive me, but shouldn't the corner/bend etc be planned well enough by the rider that the road lines aren't crossed? Especially in the wet when they become more hazardous than shark infested custard?????

Don't choose tyres around white lines... choose better riding and avoid the problem.....

Personally i'd go for the Tourances, if most of your riding is on tarmac, you want the best tarmac tyre that will still give you "light off-road" capability. It sounds like Tarmac is your actual ride, and trail is your "desired" ride.... gotta buy for what you DO, not what you WANT to do!! Ask yourself, would you rather have the wrong tyre and slip on the Tarmac, or the wrong tyre and spin/slip on the dirt.... I know where my priorities lay!! Theres no substitute for good old fashioned common sense.

Good luck either way, stay off those bloody lines though!!

I had one set of Anakees, similar to Tourances but seemed to wear out quicker. I also thought that they were not as good on white lines.

BTW how do you avoid lines at a stop sign eg

anakee's have a high silicon content better grip in the wet but wear out quicker 1.5 > 2 k less than the tourance imho

Apologies for my previous poorly written piece, what i meant was good riding should involve avoiding white lines when cornering, stopping etc, i.e avoiding applying external forces to the tyres, with the exception of balanced straight riding.

Lines at stop signs etc at 90deg to the direction of travel pose no problem, but leaning mid corner and crossing white lines could prove fatal, especially in the wet....

just my opinion of course, i wasn't trying to provoke reaction, i personally don't understand the "how well the tyres perform on wet white lines" measurement for judging the ability of a tyre. But hey, thats just my opinion.

I've used both types of tires....

The Tourance tire is a great all around tire. I think it's the best all around tire out there. It's good in the wet, dry, paved and unpaved. They also last longer than any other tire i've tried.

The Anakee are also a great tire. It's a little better in the wet than the Tourance and they won't last as long.

I vote for Tournance...... you can also give the new Michelin Pilot Roads a whirl if you only ride on paved roads...

As I have just used up the rear Anakee the bike came fitted with I can only comment on it but have to say it was a really great tyre, wet & dry grip was perfect. 3600 miles and it's just about finished. Think I will get another then fit a set of Tourances and try them.

...found that the tourance is more likely to break away and give you lots of opposite lock when accelerating around a corner on damp tarmac compared to the current Dunlops.


There appears to have been some very dodgy tourances though - watch out for bulges and blisters developing

Anakee's are best

ANAKEE'S ARE THE BEST TYRE !!!!!

Michelin has won.. The Dakar, The F1, The Moto GP, LeMan, World Rally Championship etc, etc, etc all last year.. Looks like they will do it all again this year. They know how to make the BEST tyres.

BMW are fitting more and more Anakee's as original equipment.

Go to the BMF this month and Charlie Boorman will be with Michelin.

Anakee's every time....

I got the Tourance finally,and the bike seems very light..I have only done 30 km. Tommorrow for a good ride.. Thank you all for your replies.I went to Tourances,to make sure that the Anakees won't last many km. ANyway,my friend with a Varadero,got Anakees,so we will se what is going on.

My 1200 Adventure came with Anakees and I so wanted to hate them. Always loved the Tourance which is without doubt one of the best... if not the best. Was going to fit Tourance when the Anakees needed replacing.

However... I love the Anakees, superb in the wet, but very poor mileage, but if they grip then what the heck....

The Tourance would always warn me, but had no such warnings from the Anakees... will they grip that much better in the wet and then finally let go altogether I don't really want to find out.

3,500 miles out of the rear Anakee... and fitted another

I'll be on der Nürburgring next week... I'll let you know
