Just finished a 3000 mile trip in Europe two up loaded with full luggage, France , Switzerland , Germany , Italy , Nice then all the way back up the Alps to St Malo , only did about 400 miles on main roads.

Verdict : Rear Tyre shagged , front on its way out , the weather was not perfect , a mixture of dry and wet roads and rain all day at times. The wet weather brought out the problem with these tyres , as I had quite a few slips and moments. Life of the tyre , not bad , better than the Conti Trail attacks but not as much feel.
Would I use them again NO . Back to the sure footed but less life Conti Trails ( great tyre )

Why when these tyres get such shit reviews do BMW continue to put them on the bikes ? Michelin normally make excellent tyres as well, how could they have got it so wrong ?

The Bridgestone 502 Battlewings fitted as standard to my Yamaha XT1200 have covered 5000 miles doing similar, they are squared off a bit now, but they have performed better than I expected. I shall replace them with Dunlop Trailsmarts similar to the TR91's previously fitted to my Stelvio. The Dunlops gave move confidence in the wet but didn't wear quite as well as the Bridgestones. I wasn't that impressed with Conti Trail attacks in the wet or the wear rate. I can't comment on the Anakee as I have never used them, although I do have some TCX bots that have an Anakee tread pattern on the sole :)

Not sure there is any stand out dual purpose but rode bias tyre. So might boil down to the deal they've been offered. I found them ok but ride was a bit harsh and they square off easily. PR4 a much better tyre imho, but being road only I guess doesn't fit in with the gs ethos plus they are dearer than anakee.

I get my bike in a few weeks, I'm half tempted to buy a set of PR4 and get the dealer to fit them and then sell the Anakee III's on ebay without ever using them

I have a set on my 2012 TC 1200 which runs the 150 rear tyre and I am very happy with grip, feedback and life so far. Perhaps it is the 170 version?

How many miles did you get out of the Trail Attacks?

good plan, i found PR4,s transformed my old wc GC ,road use.

BMW keep fitting then because they get a v cheap deal i guess.

Over 6K on my Conti Trail Attacks so far (on my GSA) including two European jaunts and still plenty of life left in them.

I would get over 10k on the rear with Trail Attacks on my old 06 GSA but my new LC GSA has wanked the rear Anakee at les than half that mileage

I think SiRich nailed it in that they need to appear to put not just a road focused tyre on it to keep with the GS image, hence the ever so slightly off road potential of the Anakee over the PR4

I don't think that they have got it wrong, my Anakee IIIs are fine, got nearly 8,000 miles on the front and the rear has started to square after about 4,000 of mostly touring and commuting had to be replaced because of a puncture at about 4,000 miles. It still has at least another 4,000 left in it before it becomes illegal.

Everything about them is just fine - tyres are so subjective that you will get a huge range of opinions that never seem to tally.

Anakee 3s? No problem, excellent tyre. I don't hear any road noise that others have mentioned on here, and they do everything I want to do.

My first GS, in 2008, came with Bridgestone Trail Wings, in the dry they were fine, but in the wet they were dreadful. I changed them out PDQ for something much better, but can't remember what. A few years later I started fitting Dunlop TR91s to my GSes, a brilliant tyre which, I believe, has now been replaced by Trailsmarts. When my 2014 GSA came with Anakee IIIs I expected to want to change them to either the newer Dunlop or maybe go on to Michelin PR4s, but as I said, I find the Anakees to be really good. I've just put my third rear tyre on, and am over half way through the second front, and I expect I'll stick with them.

I would say that around 2500 rear and 3700 front , based on a Spain trip , two up , but one up I would say 3000 ish rear 4000 front at home but I'm fussy with tyre profiles , ie I will change once the bike handling is affected.

If you've bought from Bahnstormer, tell them you want PR4's and they'll swap them before you take delivery, for a nominal fee.

I've been mainly riding my XR lately, and got back on the GSA this weekend, and the Anakees are going. The front is on its way out anyway, but the back keeps rolling off the edges when leant over, so my confidence in these tyres has disappeared.

It sounds like the Contis could be the way to go then?????

Engineer, have you tried PR4. Only then can you make a fair comparison or appreciate if PR4 worth the extra coin. I think they 100 percent are but agree it's all very subjective!
