Annakee III

I had two sets of annakees on my gsa lc. Absolutely fine tyre though not as good as the tourance next or exp. put pr4s on the bike now and to be honest no difference in the dry but a bit better in the wet. I find that with the pr4s you really have to put 36/42 on them. With the other tyres you could get away with much lower pressures. All tyres now are great and better than most people, mind you I come from the era of bri-nylon tyres

Ooh look - a tyre thread....

I binned front and rear Anakee 3 couple of weeks ago with 3100 miles on them and replaced them with Pilot Road 4 Trail. The Anakees had squared off badly on the rear and the front one was way past its best. They were like riding on chewing gum and just gave up when pushed hard.

So you were sliding around on the road? Don't think it's the tyres fault. Had these on a trackday and they were fine. Bike would ground before any movement.

The rear Anakee III is a funny shape and always looks more squared off than it is, this is why you never get to the very edge like most tyres!

I think I've done about 4,500 miles on this pr4 trail rear, mostly touring or commuting, but even though the centre tread is about 2-3 MM and the edges do have more tread, the handling is fine, it's not squared off like the anakee did.

I love the Anakee, mind you I haven't tried PR4 , and I accept that on all forums the Continental tyres get fantastic reviews.

Sure as F@@K wasn't my fault when the front end went away from me 3 times in the Alps in the wet on Anakee 3's, after the first one I was to say the least taking it very canny . Mates dl650v on old Metzeler Tourances had no problems . They weren't massive slides but enough to cause me to lose confidence in the tyres in the wet

Think I'll replaced mine with the PR4's, just not sure what the difference is with the Trail and normal versions.

I'm on my second gsa lc, both came with annakee 111's. On my first one l got 10k out of a set and only change them due to the up and coming trip next week. But l ordered a new gsa at the same time.

I'm finding the annakee 111 a good all-round tyre. Yes l agree that it's a very noisy tyre, concidering when l first had a demo back in March last year the bike had conti's on.

If l get about 10k on this set l will be happy.

Possibly one of the issues with the annakee is that it's a harder compound more than most. Making the tyre last well and be good in most conditions.

Hard compound= more road noise and lasts longer

Soft compound= less road noiseless , better handling but won't last as long

It's all about personal preference and what each of us want out of a tyre.

I had the TR91, Anakee 2, Anakee 3 and PR4 fitted to the various GSA'a I had and have. The TR91 and Anakee 3 squares off easily and as such you can feel the difference it makes to the handling. But they are proper sticky in the dry, try them on a track day but then again you will run out of ground clearance before you run out of grip. I had no problems with grip in the best or worse kind (no snow or ice) of weather with the TR91 and Anakee 3. I like the Anakee 3 on the narrower profile for the hexhead GSA but something feels a bit different to the Anakee 3 on the GSA LC from memory. Not a bad tyre except for the squaring off but they were more expensive that the PR4's I have on now.

Any new tyre you fit will make a massive improvement to the handling of the bike as you have just binned the old squared off ones. Best is to compare the tyres from new like in tyre comparison tests the car magazines sometimes does. No use comparing old with new and slating the old tyre for the bad feel and poor grip.

Maybe , but tyre choice has always been a personal thing , bit like marmite .......and some opinions always help folks who have not tried different makes.

I'm not talking about different makes i'm talking about using a different version of the PR4 over what the manufacturer recommend, I hear what you're saying though. It's often a case of trail and error ! (pun intended)
